Item description for The Camouflage & Markings of the Aeronautica Nazionale Repubblicana 1943-45 (Camouflage & Markings) by Ferdinando D'Amico...
For the first time in the English language and following years of research, the authors analyze the camouflage and markings of the Aeronautica Nationale Repubblicana (ANR), the fascist air force formed following the wake of Italy's capitulation to the Allies in 1943. This volume will undoubtedly become the defining reference on the subject. Fighting alongside the Luftwaffe to the bitter end in Northern Italy, the ANR was equipped with the German Messerschmitt Bf 109 fighter as well as a range of Italian fighters, bombers, torpedo and transport aircraft -- all of which are examined by the authors with the aid of hundreds of previously unpublished photographs showing the camouflage and systems markings by unit and individual units. This heavily illustrated and highly detailed work of reference covers an often-overlooked aspect of Italian air power in the later stages of World War II and is essential reading for aviation historians and aviation modelers.

Reviews - What do customers think about The Camouflage & Markings of the Aeronautica Nazionale Repubblicana 1943-45 (Camouflage & Markings)?
A commonly overlooked portion of Italian airpower during the Second World War Mar 6, 2006
Camouflage And Markings Of The Aeronautica Nazionale Repubblicana 1943-1945: A Photographic Analysis Through Speculation And Research is a close study of the camouflage and markings of the Fascist air force formed in the wake of Italy's surrender to the Allies in 1943, a commonly overlooked portion of Italian airpower during the Second World War. Black-and-white photographs and diagrams in both black-and-white and color on almost every page fill this highly visual reference, while the text spares no detail in its scrutiny of historical minutiae. Airplanes studied include the FIAT G.55s, the Macchi C.205s, the Savoia Marchetti SM.81s and SM.82s, and many more. Highly technical at times, Camouflage And Markings Of The Aeronautica Nazionale Repubblicana spares no effort in its extreme attention to detail, and is by far the most exhaustive resource of its kind.
A REFERENCE OR A BRIGHT FOLLOW-ON Aug 8, 2005
This book could be see either as a bright follow-on of previous books on the subject (most, if not all having been written by the same author) or either today's reference on the subject.
The author, through a large serie of pictures ( a lot not published before ) and his intricate knowledge of Italian camouflage regulations and uses, delivers us what is announced in the title : A study about the camo in use in Mussolini's ANR ( The Italian Air Force fighting against the Allied after the 1943 armistice )This study rely on examples based on black and white photography. The result of the interpretation is a color profile of the subject ( a delight and a source of inspiration for many modellers ! ). A large part of the book is dedicated to fighter units, but bombers and transports units are also treated. Don't be rebuted by the word speculation : This is certainly the most accurate source on the subject. D'AMICO is also updating a few hypothesis he himself made some years ago in other books.
To make a long story short, this book is a reference for both modeller and historians. You can buy it with blinded eyes.
