Item description for Studia Patristica Vol. XLIII: Augustine, Other Latin Writers by M. Edwards, P. Parvis & F. Young...
The Successive sets of Studia Patristica contain papers delivered at the International Conferences on Patristic Studies, which meets for a week once every four years in Oxford and is held under the aegis of the Theology Faculty of the University. Members of these conferences come from all over the world, and the papers presented reflect this global representation. Chronologically and topically, the papers range from the second century to the Nachleben of the Fathers. The majority are short papers dealing with some small and manageable point; they raise and sometimes resolve questions about the authenticity of documents, dates of events and the like, and some unveil new texts. The smaller number of longer papers put such matters into context and indicate wider trends. Each set is provided with an index, an invaluable index of references to the individual Fathers and each of their works. The whole reflects the state of Patristic scholarship and demonstrates the vigor and popularity of the subjects. Includes studies on Augustine on Beauty, Number, and Form, Medical Imagery in the 'New' Sermons of Augustine, Augustine on Love and Church Unity, Leo the Great and the Heresy of Nestorius, Ambrosiaster's Political Diabology, and many more. Contributions in English, French, German and Italian.
