Reviews - What do customers think about Los Angeles Complete Residents' Guide?
A white-washed LA Apr 24, 2010
I am flipping through this book in the library, astounded at how a good chunk of the city is ignored. Most of the black, Latino and Asian neighborhoods and amenities are not listed. An art gallery in Pomona (not in Los Angeles) is listed while the art galleries in Highland Park are ignored. The map leaps from Silver Lake to Pasadena, while all points in between are shunned. Pasadena isn't even in Los Angeles! Most of the services listed are on the Westside and even then, the best options aren't in the book.
I am aware that a guide book is just that, but for this be called "The Complete Residents' Guide" is a joke...unless of course, you don't travel east of the 405.

Which it had been published sooner Sep 23, 2008
Moved to LA in 2007 and I wish this had been published before we arrived. Highly valuable resource that explains the domestics of living in the USA/CA/LA. Describes all the neighborhoods, shopping, utilities, things to do etc, but much more pragmatic than the tourist-biased guides... in fact I'd recommend this book over Lonely Planet/Rough Guide if you want to get a better feel for the place. There is still a lot of detail missing - but that's what we have the web for - and I hope they are able to update this book every year or so. Definitely buy if you're moving to LA from outside California, but is pretty good reference for anyone.
