Reviews - What do customers think about Clues to Comprehension, Grades 1-2?
great workbook Jan 11, 2009
We are using this book to enhance our childrens' reading comprehension. My kids get great test scores, but their reading comp has room for improvement. I have noticed an improvement after only a few weeks of using this, once weekly, in addition to their regular school work. We use it homeschooling, but you could definitely use this on a weekly basis to supplement a public school education as well. It is very fun and interesting. My kids look forward to doing each activity. I don't think they realize they are learning!
Fun to THINK and UNDERSTAND workbook... Jan 20, 2007
I am a teacher who also home-schooled my own children. I have used this workbook both as home-school curriculum and in the classroom. I like this workbook/cd set for several reasons.
First, this set allows you to pop the CD into your computer and print out as many worksheets as you want for as many students as you have, which means that the workbook is non-consumable and can be used repeatedly.
Second, the riddles are funny and enteratining as well as thought provoking, which really encourages the student to think about the content of the riddle and to understand the clues.
Third, the accompanying worksheet to the riddle reinforces several fundamental reading skills such as generating synonyms, antonyms, and rhyming words as well as locating definitions for words. It also encourages the student to use words from the riddle in sentences or short paragraphs.
Fourth, it contains detailed instructions for teachers/instructors and uses brainstorming techniques such as ven diagrams, graphing, etc.
Last, the workbook is easily used to teach to different learning levels.
