Publishers Description In order to understand the Creation/Evolution controversy, one should use as the basis of discussion, the origin of the universe, the origin of life and the origin of man. This book takes this approach and concludes that the appearance of the universe, life and man, is the result of both creation and limited evolution. Dr. Ashby concludes that there is a logical resolution of the controversy consistent with both modern science and the Bible.

Pathetic Nov 7, 2007
This book was just sad. If I could have given it a 0, I would have. Ashby claims to have spent 5 years studying evolution and yet he consistently argues in circles, misquotes his sources, and makes logical jumps from insufficient evidence. Be very wary if you're going to read this book because you are looking for a scientific yet Christian perspective on evolution...it will leave you shortsighted and embarrassed if ever you try to debate using Ashby's points. I would recommend instead checking out Francis Collins' "The Language of God" or Ken Miller's "Finding Darwin's God" for healthy Christian arguements.
A wonderful book Sep 9, 2007
Understanding the Creation/Evolution Controversy is a gem written by a world class scientist. In my graduate days in molecular biology I remember reading some of his 280 scientific papers and had no idea then that he was an Intelligent Design (ID) supporter. Dr. Ashby has lectured at over 100 universities in 14 countries and has been awarded a slew of prestigious prizes, has a PhD in chemistry from Notre Dame, and was, for over 30 years, a distinguished professor in the department of chemistry and biochemistry at Georgia Institute of Technology. His well written book does an effective job showing why the science is clear: the current theory of evolution called Neo-Darwinism never occurred, and never could have occurred, for scientific reasons. Ashby stresses, as a scientist he is willing to go wherever the science evidence leads, and uses science, not religion, to support his position. He lists a whole page of scientists from well known universities as reviewers, which may be one reason why this short easy to read book has fewer mistakes than most books on this topic. Professor Ashby is not a scientific creationist, but an ID supporter, and both sides will benefit from reading this book. ID critics, most of which do not research primary sources and, as a result, typically quote each other's mistakes, especially will benefit from reading this book. Many ID supporters came to their conclusion that No-Darwinism never did, and could never have, happened based on science, not theology as commonly claimed by Darwin Fundamentalists. As one would expect from a chemist, he does a good job covering the scientific case for ID from biochemistry. My main compliant is the author could have written a book three times longer but wanted to briefly summarize the case for design for lay people. A great read, highly recommended for anyone interested in this topic, which these days is most everyone in the country!
Great Book for Scientists and Non-Scientists Jun 30, 2006
Perhaps because of his long teaching career, Dr. Ashby strikes just the right balance between easy to understand explanations and detailed scientific information. Dr. Ashby pulls no punches, equally criticizing or applauding evolutionists, new earth creationists, and old earth creationists for specific points in their theories. He comes down strongly on the side of old earth creation, but does so in a way that is logical and true to his scientific training.
