Burushaski is a very interesting language; without proven lineage, this isolate is spoken by just a few ten thousend people in the extreme north of Pakistan. This book starts with a quick presentation of the Burushaski phonologic system and the symbols used to transcribe it, and ends with an overview of available recent work and future priorities: lineage, available corpus, phonology and morphology, syntax, vocabulary and lexicography, typology, text and practical linguistics. Four studies form the core of this volume: H Berger demonstates that Burushaski phonology and morphology became more complex over time, contrary to mechanisms within most other languages; E Bashir tackles the difficult function of the d prefix through a cognitive approach; E Tiffou's and Y Morin's syntactical study centers around the benefactive case; and H van Skyhawk offers a socio-linguistic approach to Burushaski.
