Reviews - What do customers think about Godard: Don't Drink & Draw: The Life and Art of Michael Godard?
More shtick than talent May 20, 2008
Godard shows more talent for self-marketing than he does for art. I probably shouldn't be surprised that people respond to his shtick (and his art, I suppose). There are a lot of people with terrible taste in the world.
This book appears to have been designed by Godard himself. In other words, it lacks professionalism, looking more like a self-published book (it may have been) or a junior college student's graphic design final project.
What can I say of his actual paintings... They are mildly amusing, but betray little artistic talent.
From a Godard fan Jan 2, 2008
I had recently discovered Godard's work for the first time in a gallery and was fascinated by his wit, humor and style. Then my husband and I went on a Princess cruise two weeks later and and, lo and behold, Godard was on the ship demonstrating his work! We ran into him several times on the ship and spoke to him at length. He turned out to be accessible, friendly, funny and inspiring and we both became instant and admiring fans.
I immediately ordered this book as a gift for my husband. It is a large coffee table book, bright and glossy, with hundreds of pages of his paintings. You will spend hours looking at all the art and trying to find every silly little detail that he has cleverly woven into each piece.
This book is a MUST for any Godard fan. Godard himself writes a description for each piece and you get a little insight into his crazy, imaginative mind. This beautiful book lets us enjoy his stunning pieces over and over. He's a true original.
