This is a terrific look inside the work of current high school reform efforts, and builds on previous work on teacher professional community in high schools. Boatright's deep qualitative work captures the nuances of interactions designed to improve teaching and learning in the context of a large comprehensive high school engaged in transforming itself into a collection of small schools. The focus on understanding ways that an external support organization provides guidance for instructional improvement efforts in key content areas offers lessons for other schools engaged in deep instructional change work. An excellent primer for any high school considering this kind of transformation work!
