Item description for Nahum-Malachi (Interpretation, a Bible Commentary for Teaching and Preaching) by Elizabeth Rice Achtemeier...
Overview The Interpretation commentaries are written specifically for teachers and preachers in the local church through the means of expository essays. Each volume is based on the Revised Standard Version. The comments deal with whole portions or sections of the text which is used in teaching rather than individual verses or words. The series main attempts are to present the central purpose of each Biblical Book, to show its use in the liturgical traditions, and its significance for Christian ethics and theology.
Elizabeth Achtemeier examines the often-neglected Minor Prophets and explains them as they reflect the church at worship and at work. She sets the Minor Prophets in their canonical context emphasizing the relationship between the message of these prophets and the New Testament. Unique in the use of brief quotations from great preachers' sermons on the prophets, Nahum-Malachi is enriched with the vast insightful store of homiletical interpretation available today.
Interpretation: A Bible Commentary for Teaching and Preaching is a distinctive resource for those who interpret the Bible in the church. Planned and written specifically for teaching and preaching needs, this critically acclaimed biblical commentary is a major contribution to scholarship and ministry.

Reviews - What do customers think about Nahum-Malachi (Interpretation, a Bible Commentary for Teaching and Preaching)?
A very good, middle-of-the-road exposition. . . Mar 13, 2004
. . .of the second six Minor Prophets written specifically for the teacher or preacher. While not an in-depth scholarly commentary (and this is not the purpose of the series) major issues and questions concerning the reading and interpretation of these books is well-presented.
I was impressed with "Hosea-Micah" -- and was even more impressed with "Nahum-Malachi". Dr. Achtemeier should be well-pleased with this effort.
The professional student is probably going to wish to look elsewhere for more depth, but the pastor, looking for a preaching aid, or the adult Bible study facilitator will find the volume most rewarding.
