Item description for Bluewater Bride -- The Voyage of the Halcyon by E. C. Norton...
Bluewater Bride by E. C. Norton is a whaling story with a twist - focusing on a young woman's coming of age during a whaling voyage around the world. Set in the last great days of whaling in the 19th century, Emily sails with her father, Hiram Wright, aboard the Halcyon to overcome the grief at the loss of her mother. Aboard she meets Captain Henry Gifford, a dependable Yankee mariner who was the best of his breed. When Emily's father unexpectedly dies, Emily grows to make a choice about the kind of woman she was destined to be - as independent and courageous as the mariner she chooses to marry in this voyage of discovery.

Reviews - What do customers think about Bluewater Bride -- The Voyage of the Halcyon?
A greasy voyage! Oct 22, 2003
On a whaling ship, greasy was good. A hunt went on for years, and every man aboard wished the deck to be ever-slick with all that could be drained and boiled from beast after beast. The whole business seems unthinkable today. We want to save the whales, not slaughter them. But author Norton sails into the winds of contemporary conceit and political correctness as boldly as the Halcyon sails into hurricanes and pirate-infested waters. Fans of his last book, The House:1916, will recognize Norton's deft touch at melding history and fiction. Bluewater Bride is a greasy read, indeed.
