Item description for To Wear the Badge by E. A. Machado...

CONFLICT ON THE TEXAS FRONTIER The story of Charlie and Tyler Lode and what it means to be a Texas Ranger.

"To Wear The Badge" by E.A. Machado is a historically based novel that takes place during thirty-seven years in Texas history. It is a story about the Texas Rangers and the complex relationship of a father and son, who are both members of the Rangers. The story begins in 1845, when a debate raged as to whether Texas should become a part of the United States. It was a time of social and political turmoil on a wild frontier filled with Mexican bandits and Comancheros. Central to this dramatic time in Texas history were the Texas Rangers, who were the protectors of the frontier settlements. This unique story revolves around the interplay of Texas and American history and the personal conflict between the main characters. When Tyler Lode resists his father's urging to also quit the Rangers, Charlie Lode begins to resent his own son and they are separated. Later, Charlie looks for Tyler in order to make amends. Will he find him? Will there be peace between this father and son?
