Item description for God's Truth about Gender: Unraveling the Lies of Modern Human Sexuality, Behavior, and Identity by IV David E. James...
Overview This book is timely in that it addresses many issues surrounding modern human sexuality and interpersonal behavior. Todays culture has become permeated with a false belief whose foundation rests completely upon the doctrine of moral relativism regarding human interaction. In todays society, each man and woman have become a law unto themselves. This book raises back to consciousness the concepts regarding human identity in relation to what it means to be malefemale made in the image of our creator. This image is a spiritual one not physical. Human beings possess a duality that only exists in man alone. Our physical nature is rooted in science, nature and dust from which scripture claims we were formed. Our other half is concerned with the truth of our existence as spiritual beings. Science and spirituality speak to two separate realities of human existence, the natural and the spiritual respectively. To hold one in higher esteem and ignore the other shows a form of human illness of understanding in regards to our existence. Spiritual existence is concerned with issues of belief, purpose, morality and behavior. These are not physical realities but, spiritual ones. The concept surrounding the phrases breath of life, living soul, image of God are all different ways in which scripture gives insight into the nature of man as a spiritual being, temporarily wrapped in a physical, bodily form. The text touches upon issues of marriage, sexuality, parenting, psychology, human development, behavior and addiction. These topics represent a crosssection of ideas; some dealing with human behavior (spiritual) and others with the science of human nature (physical). In man, we see a delicate blending of spiritual and physical truths, the basis of which drives the complexities of human behaviors and interaction. There is much information written about spirituality alone but few books undertake the task of reconciling spiritual and physical realities. In that sense, this book will serve the reader well; As it is, understanding this duality of man is the key to understanding what it truly means to be human, treasures in earthen vessels."

WOW!!! Jul 24, 2008
I have never heard the issues surrounding human sexuality discussed in such a candid and intelligent way. This is not a book about only one aspect of human behavior such as homosexuality, polygamy, incest etc. It deals with many facets of human behavior. This book has something to offer to anyone interested in understanding more about themselves, whatever your issues may be! The author has no self serving agenda as I see it. He was very open and vulnerable about sensitive areas concerning his own life and clearly has nothing left to hide. In the introduction he instructs the reader on how to read the material and guides the mindset needed to understand the information appropriately. The book builds upon basic fundamental knowledge that he attempts to instil within the reader prior to the introduction of later chapters. Though a bit slow in the first 30 or so pages, it would be difficult to grasp the complete story without this early basic understanding. I can see why he warns his readers about inappropriate skipping around that would leave you "no more enlightened than if you had never read it." He does not appear to be preaching to his readers, just plainly stating realities about humanity that may be difficult for some individuals to admit. He challenges the political agendas of certain subgroups while also showing concern for their personal stories that lead them to many errors in thinking. It requires a significant amount of intellectual power to grasp many of the topics completely, especially the discussion on behavioral addiction. I found myself re-reading certain portions to assure my understanding was in line with what he was trying to portray. I do not feel this is a negative concerning his writing style. How to communicate these difficult concepts in written form had to be very difficult. I feel this books sets the foundation for real discussion about extremely tough topics that seem to be relavent to modern ideas surrounding morality. Anyone who reads this and is not changed in some way or another is not looking for the truth.
