Item description for Genesis, Science & History: A Faith-Building Look at the Opening Chapters of Genesis by Douglas Jacoby...
Overview Fresh. Scholarly. Inspiring. These are just three words that describe "Genesis, Science & History." With a conviction that the first book in the Bible has a powerful message for the modern world, Dr. Douglas Jacoby writes about the God who created and made himself known to his creation. Taking positions that are not always traditional, he carefully deals with scientific issues raised by the book of Genesis. But he never forgets that his chief aim as a Bible expositor is to help his readers see the wisdom of God and apply it to their lives. This book will not answer every question that today's Bible student may have about Genesis, creation, history and science; but it will point sincere readers in helpful directions and leave them grateful for the god who reveals himself to us in the Bible.
Publishers Description This is a faith-building and eye-opening exploration of the scientific and literary themes in the opening chapters of the Bible. With attention to everything from theories about the age of the earth to the extent of Noah's flood, there is something for everyone in this readable, informative look at Genesis 1-11. The author attempts to show science and the Bible ned not be pitted against one another in the minds of sincere, informed believers.

Reviews - What do customers think about Genesis, Science & History: A Faith-Building Look at the Opening Chapters of Genesis?
The subtitle is an accurate description of the book Dec 15, 2008
This book is an expository, faith-building examination of Genesis 1-11. It is well suited for someone with little or no previous exposure to the Bible-science debate. For someone already familiar with the issue, I would recommend other books, such as Keith Miller's "Perspectives on an Evolving Creation."
The author presents multiple viewpoints fairly and comes down in favor of the framework interpretation, theistic evolution and a local flood.
Yes Dec 14, 2004
This book by Doug Jacoby is really good. I don't know why the previous reviewer gave it a low rating and still enjoyed the book. At any rate, this book will inspire your faith. You will learn to approach and understand Genesis in a different light. Doug Jacoby is not dogmatic at all. He is open and presents his thoughts clearly. He even gives you his e-mail address if you have any suggestions. This book is a classic for understanding Genesis.
Genesis From The Pen of Jacoby May 28, 2004
Dr. Douglas Jacoby is one of the best speakers and writers in the International Churches of Christ. The ICOC has been making many changes over the past few years and Jacoby is one of the leaders encouraging these changes. His writing style is graceful, biblical, and he differs where he has to with the standard interpretations.
This book is an updated version of THE GOD WHO DARED. The book explores the first eleven chapters of Genesis. Jacoby takes a theistic evolution approach to Genesis 1-2. While I differ with him over this issue, Jacoby is clear that he believes God created all things and by His Word they are held together (Hebrews 1:1-3). The book offers great insights into Genesis and will encourage you in your faith.
