Reviews - What do customers think about A Matrix Model Approach for Children With a Typical Behaviors?

New Book Can Help Our Troubled Children Stay Out Of Prisons or Mental Institutions  Nov 26, 2007
If you look at the news headlines today, you will no doubt find an abundance of articles about children with behavior problems, violence, learning difficulties, and other psychiatric/mental problems. After reading Dorothy Halla-Poe's book, A Matrix Model Approach for Children with Atypical Behaviors, I believe there are ways to help these children stay out of the headlines.

Ms. Poe's research and knowledge of these dysfunctions and behavior problems are highly evident in her writings. She is very thorough in analyzing these conditions and showing new options in treating these children. With sections outlining the Attachment Disorder, Dyslexia, Multiple Intelligences, and The Feldenkrais Method, Ms. Poe covers every aspect of both problems and solutions. The book and process itself, is both creative and invaluable in helping these children break through. The author offers case studies that examine different children and different problems to bolster her approach.

And, I agree with the back cover that "The Matrix Model provides an innovative, creative, and well-researched method of working with children who exhibit neurological dysfunction, psychiatric disorders, or atypical behaviors; children who otherwise have a high probability of being incarcerated or institutionalized."

Written mostly in clinical terms, the book is designed more for educators and medical personnel. It was, however, very easy to follow and understand for someone like me, who has less knowledge of these disorders. I would recommend this book for anyone and everyone who works with children with behavior problems of any capacity, especially educators and mental health professionals.

A Matrix Model Approach for Children With a Typical Behaviors   Sep 13, 2007
Having accidentally killed another child when I was 6, I became a child that exhibited all of the signs of one most likely to become incarcerated. I found Dorothy's book an excellent example of many of the methods that actually saved me from killing myself/others or ending up istitutionalized for a very long time. Dorothy is an excellent writer and a very wise woman, I count it a blessing from God himself that she is also my mother!

Sincerely,
Mark D. Halla

MidWest Book Review  Jul 23, 2003
This was a very enlighting, interesting read. As a Counselor I was anxious to see what this book was all about and it was worth my time to read it.
The author works with children who display atypical behaviors due to neurological dysfunction and she has developed what she called "The Matrix Model" method in dealing with these children, that certainly seems to be producing results.
The four elements of this model are: Attachment Disorder, Dyslexia, Multiple Intelligences and The Felenkrais Method.
I will not even try to explain these to you as I could never do them justice, but I will tell you that the author gives case after care of their use and shows the wonderful progress with children that they bring.
As a lover of children my heart went out to these young ones as I read of their trauma, but I rejoiced also at the help that Dorothy Halla-Poe and her wonderful work is doing for them.
If you have b children with these problems, know someone who does, or if you are just interested in help for children, this book is for you. My prayer is that many, many children will be helped with this strategy and can have a better quality of life.
