Item description for Child, Victim, Soldier: The Loss of Innocence in Uganda by Donald H. Dunson...

Overview
The heart-wrenching story of child soldiers in Uganda. The rebel group in Uganda known as the Lord's Resistance Army has abducted children-boys and girls-to serve as soldiers and to provide sexual services. Torn from their families in the dead of night and forced to carry out terrible acts, including murdering family members and other children, they bear terrifying scars on their bodies, minds, and souls. Fr. Dunson lets their stories be heard, often in their own voices, telling of their hurts and needs, but also of their hopes for the future. His text, accompanied by powerful photographs taken by Gerald Straub, also reflects on the presence of evil in the world and the need for healing.

Reviews - What do customers think about Child, Victim, Soldier: The Loss of Innocence in Uganda?

A seven-year-old child is kidnaped and trained to kill, serving as a soldier  Feb 9, 2009
A person must be eighteen years of age to join the United States Military. Not all countries have such enlightened policies. "Child, Victim, Soldier: The Loss of Innocence in Uganda" is the story of children such as Sunday Obote. Donald Dunson has done much research to bring American eyes onto the dark truth that they so often ignore, a civil war that engulfs Uganda that makes America's own look like a sunny picnic in a grassy meadow. A seven-year-old child is kidnaped and trained to kill, serving as a soldier. This horrible story happens far more often than one would imagine, and "Child, Victim, Soldier" speaks for the voices that America ignores.

Have we learned nothing from our history?  Nov 12, 2008
Our church made a mission visit to Gulu, Uganda, this past June of 2008; the same area visited and written about by Fr. Dunson in this book. We plan to work with the people of Koch Goma, near the city of Gulu. What will you do? Here is my challenge - if you can read this book and still not be moved to act then you are already out of touch with your own humanity. It is a short but powerful description of horror, calling us to hope and action in a world drowning in apathy.
