A Needed Historical Perspective Aug 30, 2007
Donald Bloesch has penned a needed historical perspective. No doubt, today's crying need is for changeless truth for our changing times. At the same time, we need insight to help us to discern which ancient truths are compatible with authoritative scriptural truth.
Surveying the diverse history of Christian spirituality, Bloesch purpose is to offer guidance toward building a biblically-based, historcally-founded spirituality. However, at times he rides a little rough-shod over those who disagree with his perspective without prividing the readers with enough primary source material to make come to their own conclusion. There also seems to be a tendency toward an either/or focus between head and heart. While he does see value in some writings of those with whom he disagrees, the author tends to denigrate some with broad brush strokes.
