Item description for ¿Qué me quieres, amor? by Manuel Rivas & Dolores Vilavedra...

Woven with the unmistakable rhythm and great sensitivity that trademarks Rivas works, the stories contained in this book revolve around love the love of a father that leaves to work worried about where and how his son has spent the night; the love felt for a mother, indescribably similar, to the milkmaid captured by Vermeer in 1690; the more carnal love of Camia, with the uncomfortable presence of her dog Tarzan; or, why not?, the compassionate love the reader feels for the old professor in rural Spain in La lengua de las mariposas .

Reviews - What do customers think about ¿Qué me quieres, amor??

Una apreciación  Dec 22, 2004
It is important to remember that Rivas writes originally in his own Gallego rather than Spanish though he does translate some of his own works into Spanish. But whether you read him in Spanish, Gallego, or English (this title in English is under the name "Vermeer's Milkmaid and other stories" ) his grasp of the human experience transcends all cultures. He is a master of the short story, whatever the language, and can be appreciated on many levels. I couldn't recommend this book more highly.
A stunning literary experience  Mar 22, 2003
The book is composed of short stories written with mastery. The deep feelings involved in the human relationships. The translation from the "gallego" is superb. No one who loves literature and the spanish language should miss it!
