"Insight" by Deborah Raney Mar 26, 2009
Author Deborah Raney provides yet another magnificent story with "Insight."
Olivia Cline is trying to put the past behind her and move ahead in her marriage. Though her husband has been unfaithful, she is determined to do what she can to save her marriage and start the family her husband so desperately desires.
Giving up her job at a Chicago interior design firm, she follows her husband to Hanover Falls, Missouri. But shortly after she arrives, she learns that her husband has been seriously injured in an explosion. When she arrives at the hospital, she learns that her husband is only being kept alive by a ventilator.
After the dealing with the choice to take her husband off the ventilator, Olivia finds herself in a new town with no job, no friends, no husband. How could things be any worse? She learns she's pregnant.
Reed Vincent is an artist who is struggling to save the one thing every artist needs most: his eyesight. He undergoes a corneal transplant, but only time will tell if the transplant will take.
In order to use his eyesight for his artwork, he hires Olivia as his assistant. The two develop an unexpected bond, but then Olivia comes to realize where she has seen his signature before.
Her moment of insight sends her packing her bags for Chicago.
Here is what I especially loved about this book:
Strong Characters - Deborah Raney does a wonderful job of putting us inside the characters. You feel Olivia's horror when she learns about the explosion. You struggle to see from Reed's defective eyes.
Dramatic Tension - This book is a heart-gripper. Raney knows how to torture her characters until you're not sure how much more these poor people can stand. (It also keeps you turning the pages!)
Sensory Detail - The author is a master at helping the reader use all their senses, which causes the setting and the characters to come to life on the page.
Interesting Premise - I won't spoil the book for you, but the idea behind the story is really intriguing!
I can't say enough good things about "Insight." I love it when I can pick up a book and get lost in the story, and Deborah Raney knows how to deliver that kind of story!
A Wonderful Read Mar 18, 2009
I know that Deborah Raney's name on the cover of a book guarantees a good read. This book is no exception. I love the plot. Impossible situations in the lives of both the hero and heroine are intensified when their paths cross.
Strong characters carry the story with an important spiritual message. You won't want to miss this book.
