Reviews - What do customers think about Hymns for the Revised Common Lectionary 2007?
Helpful Worship Planner! Jan 26, 2007
This work is simple and to the point. It lists the varied Bible references from the Revised Common Lectionary and lists hymns that connect with these texts, referring to five hymnals within the Wesleyan and general Protestant tradition. It refers to a Spanish hymnal, a Korean one, and an African-American hymnal. I find it very helpful, easy to use. The worship planning team in my church is discovering new hymns and new ways to think about the Bible because of these hymns. The book delivers exactly what it promises--not much does that these days.
Disappointing Jan 25, 2007
Prior to 2007, this information was available (free of charge) on the General Board of Discipleship website. Now I have to buy this book to get it. Don't get me wrong, the information it contains is very useful for worship planning. But the book has one major flaw... no index. So, if the pastor happens to be preaching on an alternate scripture that isn't in the lectionary calendar, for the specific day, the book is useless. Even if the alternate scripture appears in the book, but on a different day, the only way to find it would be to look on every page. No index? Come on.
If they took the last 5 years worth and added a comprehensive index, I'd be ecstatic. But until then, I won't be buying the "2008" version.
