Reviews - What do customers think about The New Childrens Bible?
Close to Scripture but not fully faithful May 1, 2010
This is a fairly good children's bible. Children in grades 4 - 7 should be able to read this independently with little difficulty. There are four stories where this Bible deviates significantly from Scripture. In the story of Elijah and the widow for example, the widow's great faith is reduced significantly when Elijah foretells that the oil will not run out. The Bible does not record this beforehand, only afterwards. Parents should read with their children and explain.
wonderful children's bible!! Dec 21, 2009
I grew up on the Children's Bible by Anne De Vries (1963 edition), and I'm so glad to see that it's been republished! She makes the stories so understandable. She's sympathetic and empathetic and helps young children see the reasons people acted the way they did, why God said things and how he must have felt, and why events happened. This is a nice long Bible, with chapter breaks at good intervals for bedtime reading. My mom read to us from it before bed starting when I was about 5 and my sisters 4 and 1. After several weeks she would finish it, and move on to another book. After that book, she would ask us what we wanted to read next. Many times we asked for this Children's Bible, and she would start it again. I can't imagine a better one for kids.
