Reviews - What do customers think about In the Presence of God?
Beautiful Overall Message Dec 29, 2009
Within this small book, we are privy to a deeply devoted Christian man's thinking about what it means to truly believe in a God of love and forgiveness. On the one hand, Dr. Stevens expands our understanding of Christianity and, on the other, he lights a fire within the reader to know more. His words are unique and mystical at times, but always in agreement with the heart and soul of sacred Christian teachings. While there is plenty to contemplate and consider, it leaves you desiring more. But simply and surely, the author reveals the means to fulfill that need. I have taken this book to South Africa, China and Latin America, and its words touch everyone who reads it. Read this book, share this book and live its teachings. It will inspire you to be more, to give more and to love more.
Big Help in a Little Book Nov 25, 2009
Inspiring and uplifting. All of the verses are great lead-ins for sermons or Bible study. Makes you think outside the box. I read a new passage every morning to contemplate throughout the day and it has been really helpful. I recommend it highly.
AN ENLIGHTENED BOOK OF HOPE! Oct 31, 2009
The simplicity and purity of truth in this book is both powerful and affecting. Every word is written from the soul of a humble and enlightened master teacher of spiritual principles who presents a unique perspective that expands your awareness and opens your heart. It is more than standard Christian dialog. The words are like a breath of life from God. I only wish there was a second volume of his writings and visions available to the public!
Wonderful Book Full of True Christian Guidance Aug 20, 2009
As a new Christian, I was looking for a book to keep me on the right course. Seeing that this one had several great reviews from notables like Michael S. Steele, Chairman of the Republican National Committee and Dr. Richard G. Arno of the Christian Broadcasting Network, among others, cinched it for me. This book confirms that Dr. Stevens is a man inspired by God. His book helps you to know God in personal terms, too. He gives some great guidelines for making your prayer time more meaningful and teaches the reader simple techniques for Christian meditation. Then he suggests you study individual messages on each page for awhile until you understand them, then move to the next to do the same. This process is very helpful for realizing the significance of each of them. This is a book to spiritually grow with, filled with words to live by. I think it would make a very good Christian study group choice, too. I found it very helpful.
In the presence of a waste of paper Aug 18, 2009
This book only has about 35 real pages of text. After that, there are many pages of with titles and two brief "sentences". (There are over 213 pages in the book.) His ideas are neutral enough to not offend most Christians, but there are some very new age ideas, too. Actual quote : "Once you feel comfortable that you have mastered the methods and techniques given (and it may take a little practice), you will be ready to follow a path that leads to spiritual growth, abundant love of yourself and others, and a new and profound understanding of your place in the universe as a co-creator with God." (page xxiv -- yes, he uses roman numerals to number the pages!) Since when did I create the world? Many days I feel old, but haven't ever really felt that old! (yet)
Save yourself (and all of the thankful forests of the world) from this mass of paper. Just read your Bible. Or any other book on prayer if you must.
