Item description for God Does Not Foreclose: The Universal Promise of Salvation by David Lowes Watson...

Overview
David Lowes Watson wants to remove a major blockage in the church--the self-centered pursuit of spiritual amphetamines--by acknowledging the responsibilities of universal salvation and the demands placed upon faithful discipleship: How can Christians effectively hold the tension between the gospel and the seductions of the world? How can we be committed to the church in a way that guards against thoughtless or self-centered discipleship? How can we be committed to discipleship in a way that guards against theological procrastination? David Lowes Watson demonstrates through careful biblical exegesis that all persons are the benefactors of divine grace, but that persons known as Christians are called to a disciplined discipleship. When identifying the role of the clergy and laity as facilitators of these disciplined leaders, Watson explains why no person has the right to declare who is inside or outside of God's universal love.

Reviews - What do customers think about God Does Not Foreclose: The Universal Promise of Salvation?

Most solid book out there on universal salvation  Dec 13, 2006
This book, while not as light a read as some others on universal salvation (see Thomas Talbott's books in this site and check out related books), has a unique perspective that is well worth pondering. The author distinguishes between unbelievers, ordinary believers, and believers who go the extra step and become disciples of Christ. All are saved in the end, the author asserts (and demonstrates from Scripture), but many of passages that make it sound as if we are to be very, VERY good are intended for disciples rather than for run of the mill believers. God loves us all and understands how flawed we are. We will be made better when we make it to an environment more suited to evoking in us love, compassion, and perfection.
