Good comparison of different Christian viewpoints Nov 26, 2009
The book version I read has a different cover and publisher (InterVarsity Press) and is copyrighted 1978, and thus I do not know if the 2000 publication has any changes; my review pertains to the copyright 1978 edition (which I bought used).
Wells describes and then evaluates various Christian viewpoints, each in its own chapter. The viewpoints covered are: Conservative, Neo-orthodoxy, The existential approach, God in a godless world, Divine politics, and Roman Catholic theology. I would have liked to have two more chapters included, namely Liberalism (placed before Neo-orthodoxy) and Eastern Orthodoxy.
The chapters on the viewpoints are very good. Those chapters are clear and well written and very interesting and to-the-point. Part of the beginning was not as well written, and the Conclusion chapter was not as strong as the other chapters.
Perhaps the book's main strength lies in part in the reader having concise and at the same time powerful descriptions of these viewpoints all in one book that is not huge.
