This book describes the real life in Tibet in the 1940's before the Communist Chinese forces took over. It is a wonderful book that could reveal so much to you about the real life of the people and the religious leaders of the region. It accounts for the experience of a Christian couple who answered a calling to minister to the people in the heart of Tibet. The book appears to have a slow start but it builds up to an interesting story and I found it hard to put down. I read it slowly to try to grasp the author's effort to describe the grandeur of the surrounding area as they traveled on horseback and on foot up the snow covered mountain passes and in the many places they stayed in. In the end I found myself appreciating the many blessing that I have. I recommend reading this book which has a unique true to life account of an area and its people that was regarded as being mysterious and mystifying to their outside world.
