Reviews - What do customers think about Probability and Schrodinger's Mechanics?
The best explanation of Hamilton-Jacobi Theory I've seen Jan 30, 2005
For Physicists and Applied Mathematicians. An excellent book. The title tells you what Prof. Cook is focussed on. But I was most impressed with his explanation of Hamilton-Jacobi Theory. I love classical mechanics, but I had not appreciated the profound connection between H-J theory and Schrodinger's mechanics until reading this book. Clearly Schrodinger understood that connection, as Prof. Cook makes clear. Prof. Cook is an enthusiastic teacher, who has thought deeply about his topic. He has serious issues with the present state of Quantum Mechanics, which he frankly explains in this book. I am not comfortable with some of his positions - but this book has helped me greatly to understand the creative leap that H-J and Schrodinger made.
