Item description for The Silencing of God: The Dismantling of America's Christian Hertiage by Dave Miller...
Overview The United States of America is undergoing swift transition as the forces of "political correctness" wage a vociferous culture war. Activist judges, secularist educators, morally bankrupt entertainers, and liberal politicians have teamed up to sell a sanitized version of America's past. Their objective? To expunge every manifestation of God, Christ, and the Bible from American life. What has been the result of their intolerant, relentless assault on the traditional American values that lifted the U.S. to its unprecedented prominence among the nations of human history? The moral and spiritual underpinnings of American civilization are collapsing. But America's intimate connection to Christianity from the very beginning was embedded deeply in our public life. Though for 50 years these sinister forces have steadily chipped away at America's now crumbling foundations, many indications of our nation's Christian heritage remain. The historical evidence is voluminous and decisive: the Founders of the American Republic intended the political institutions that they established to be based upon and rooted in the moral principles of the Christian religion. How can a nation that has scaled such heights and viewed such vistas stray so far from its original moorings? The Silencing of God Seminar issues a stirring plea to the nation to return from the moral and spiritual depths to which she has plummeted, and to reaffirm the biblical values that are being systematically stripped from public life. Recommendations are suggested on what Christians can do to save our nation from moral destruction.

Reviews - What do customers think about The Silencing of God: The Dismantling of America's Christian Hertiage?
Excellent presentation of History Sep 29, 2008
I recently attended a live presentation of this seminar by Dave Miller at a community college in South Florida. The presentation showed quote after quote after quote and article after article after article showing the original intent of the founding of America.
If you are a fan of History you will enjoy this presentation simply for the numerous historical documents referenced.
I found it quite enjoyable and informative.
Finding Truth Among the Lies! Jun 10, 2008
In 1797 a document was drafted named `Treaty of Tripoli'. Negotiated by President George Washington, and signed by our second President John Adams. This manuscript declares that this country was not established on the back of Christian theology;
"Art. 11. As the Government of the United States of America is not, in any sense, founded on the Christian religion; as it has in itself no character of enmity against the laws, religion, or tranquillity, of Mussulmen; and, as the said States never entered into any war, or act of hostility against any Mahometan nation, it is declared by the parties, that no pretext arising from religious opinions, shall ever produce an interruption of the harmony existing between the two countries."
Read it again, "As the Government of the United States of America is not, in any sense, founded on the Christian religion." Our first two Presidents were directly involved with this treaty, and Congress unanimously approved its text! Any attempt to say state that this is a country rooted in Christian religion, is a bold faced lie!
In addition, to say that all the founding fathers held personal Christian beliefs would also be incorrect. The following is just a handful of quotes by the founders of this nation.
"And the day will come when the mystical generation of Jesus, by the supreme being as his father in the womb of a virgin will be classed with the fable of the generation of Minerve in the brain of Jupiter. But may we hope that the dawn of reason and freedom of thought in these United States will do away with this artificial scaffolding, and restore to us the primitive and genuine doctrines of this most venerated reformer of human errors." -Thomas Jefferson, Letter to John Adams, April 11, 1823
"Millions of innocent men, women and children, since the introduction of Christianity, have been burnt, tortured, fined and imprisoned; yet we have not advanced one inch towards uniformity." -Thomas Jefferson, Notes on Virginia, 1782.
"To talk of immaterial existences is to talk of nothings. To say that the human soul, angels, god, are immaterial, is to say they are nothings, or that there is no god, no angels, no soul. I cannot reason otherwise...without plunging into the fathomless abyss of dreams and phantasms. I am satisfied, and sufficiently occupied with the things that are, without tormenting or troubling myself about those which may indeed be, but of which I have no evidence."
"The Christian god can easily be pictured as virtually the same god as the many ancient gods of past civilizations. The Christian god is a three headed monster; cruel, vengeful and capricious. If one wishes to know more of this raging, three headed beast-like god, one only needs to look at the caliber of people who say they serve him. They are always of two classes: fools and hypocrites."
"If it ends in a belief that there is no god, you will find incitements to virtue in the comfort and pleasantness you feel in this exercise, and the love of others which it will procure you." Thomas Jefferson - Letter to Peter Carr (his nephew)
"Religions are all alike - founded upon fables and mythologies."
"I do not find in orthodox Christianity one redeeming feature." "Christianity is the most perverted system that ever shone on man."
"I cannot believe in the immortality of the soul.... No, all this talk of an existence for us, as individuals, beyond the grave is wrong. It is born of our tenacity of life - our desire to go on living ... our dread of coming to an end."
"Religion is all bunk."
"I have found Christian dogma unintelligible. Early in life, I absented myself from Christian assemblies."
"Lighthouses are more helpful then churches."
"Where do we find a precept in the Bible for Creeds, Confessions, Doctrines and Oaths, and whole carloads of other trumpery that we find religion encumbered with in these days?"
"The divinity of Jesus is made a convenient cover for absurdity."
"This would be the best of all possible worlds, if there were no religion in it."
"During almost fifteen centuries has the legal establishment of Christianity been on trial. What has been its fruits? More or less, in all places, pride and indolence in the clergy; ignorance and servility in the laity; in both, superstition, bigotry, and persecution."
"What influence in fact have Christian ecclesiastical establishments had on civil society? In many instances they have been upholding the thrones of political tyranny. In no instance have they been seen as the guardians of the liberties of the people. Rulers who wished to subvert the public liberty have found in the clergy convenient auxiliaries. A just government, instituted to secure and perpetuate liberty, does not need the clergy."
"The most formidable weapon against errors of every kind is reason. I have never used any other, and I trust I never shall."
"Whenever we read the obscene stories, the voluptuous debaucheries, the cruel and tortuous executions, the unrelenting vindictiveness with which more than half the Bible is filled, it would be more consistent that we call it the word of a demon than the word of God. It is a history of wickedness that has served to corrupt and brutalize mankind." From - The Age of Reason
"Revelation is a communication of something which the person to whom the thing id revealed did not know before. For if I have done, a thing, or seen it done, it needs no Revelation to tell me, I have done or seen it done nor enable me to tell it or write it. Revelation therefore cannot be applied to anything done upon earth, of which man is himself actor or witness and consequently all the historical part of the Bible which is almost the whole of it, is not within the meaning and compass of the word Revelation and therefore is not the Word of God."-- Thomas Paine, The Age of Reason
"All national institutions of churches, whether Jewish, Christian or Turkish, appear to me no other than human inventions, set up to terrify and enslave mankind, and monopolize power and profit. "
I know a lot of people use the `In God We Trust' statement as evidence of our Christian heritage. This would be a mistake. The U.S. and the state of Florida changed to `In God We Trust' as the motto after an Act of Congress in 1956. Prior to this bill our National Motto was `E Pluribus Unum', meaning `From many, One'. Our paper money did not bear the motto until October 1, 1957. Both of which were put into play by President Dwight D. Eisenhower. These alterations were made as a form of psychological retaliation to the communist movement. Charles Edward Bennet of the House made the following speech on the issue:
"In these days when imperialistic and materialistic Communism seeks to attack and destroy freedom, it is proper" to "remind all of us of this self-evident truth" that "as long as this country trusts in God, it will prevail."
The axiom stated above was not implemented until 180 years after the birth of our nation. To make my point further, "under God" wasn't added to the Pledge of Allegiance until 1954.
The shift in government was due to the increased religious sentiment and the rise of communism. These changes have only begun to dominate our culture in the last 50 + years. This tells us that our country has become a Christian nation, not that it was founded on Christian principles. This wide spread acceptance of history is due to manipulation by the arrogant and regurgitation by the ignorant. I recently came upon this enlightenment allowing me to put away my own ignorance. Now you can do the same, and we can restore truth to history.
