Publishers Description Noah was in shock. It had been nearly one hundred twenty years since God told him this flood would come. Now that it was here, he couldn't bear it. Noah understood quite well what was taking place outside and why God had determined it had to be that way. Still, the reality was agonizing. Why, oh why, did they not listen? Noah thought. He shed no tears. He had cried so much and so often in these recent days that his body could produce no more. He continued to stare into his lap. Noah wished the screams outside were not real. He wished to awaken from this nightmare. But he could only endure it. As the rain pounded the roof and the people outside suffered, minutes were like hours. Familiar voices were begging him to open the door. Noah knotted his fists into his cloak and tried to hold on. Chris Skates, who wrote Christian-themed one-act plays and short stories in college, rediscovered his love of writing in his late thirties. He has had five short stories published nationally and has published several technical articles. Chris, a chemist, also has taught adult Bible study classes for eight years. He and his wife, Tracy, have two children. Dan Tankersley has developed more than three hundred discipleship training classes that he uses to teach Biblical topics. His strong interest in and decade-long research of the first eleven chapters of Genesis led to the development of this novel. He has a technical degree in data processing. Dan and his wife of more than thirty years, Judy, have three children and seven grandchildren. Chris and Dan can be contacted at info@BeReadyMinistries.com.

You will never think of "Noah's Ark" in the same way again! Jan 11, 2008
While reading this book, I realized that I had always taken the story of Noah and the ark for granted. I always believed it happened the way the Bible said, but I never stopped to think about Noah and his family as real people with real thoughts, emotions, personalities, and flaws. I must admit I probably never had the imagination to think in those terms. The Rain put the great flood story I had heard all my life into a new perspective for me. It also makes you take a step back and examine your own Christian life. It only takes the prologue to get you hooked. The dialogue, imagery, and content are just how they should be. I enjoyed reading the authors' comments at the end of the book. I read these first and became even more excited to read this novel. I read it in only two sittings, and I ordered several copies of The Rain to give as gifts. I can't wait for Chris and Dan to write another novel!
AWESOME! Jan 2, 2008
I'm not normally much of a reader but when this book came out, I just knew I had to get it. I've heard Chris tell stories in person so I knew the book would be good - I wasn't disappointed. I was hooked from the first page and finished it in just a few days. Throughout the story, I felt like I was there on the ark with them - the way he described everything made it so vivid! This was srictly an adult version of Noah's Ark and it was told in such a way that I believed every word of it - even though I know many parts were fiction. We have no way of knowing exactly what happened on the ark but Chris made it very believable. Would (and have) highly recommend this book to anyone! Can't wait for the sequel...
Great book! Dec 4, 2007
This book is a great story of Noah and the Ark based on biblical fact with an adult perspective. I felt as if I could sense the darkness, the smells, and sounds that permeated the ark that was home to Noah's family and a pair of every creature on earth. It is an easy book to read and let time slip away.
The Rain...The Message Nov 6, 2007
Dan and Chris have taken a good story and made it come alive. The dialogue, the struggles, and the imagery make this book difficult to put down. I felt like I was living the events. I felt excitement, pain, remorse, and longing from the very first chapter. I was pleasantly surprised at some of the outcomes.
Some of the character's struggles really struck a nerve. I can relate to their thoughts, mistakes, and accomplishments. Reading this book will make me a better person.
The Rain --- how refreshing!! Oct 22, 2007
This is the first nearly 300 page novel I have read in only 2 days. Not just because it flowed well, but simply because I could not put it down. Don't let the familiarity of the story of Noah's Ark keep you from purchasing this book. This book tells the story like no other. The author never deviates from bibilical truth, but creatively tells a story of the challenges, drama, and humor that COULD have occured on the ark. Even if you would not typically purchase a biblically based book, you are in for a real treat. You will never feel you are being "preached" to, but only that you are stepping into the life of a man who, though just as human-minded as any man, chose to obey God no matter what the cirumstance. And if you frequently enjoy reading biblically based books, this one will provide you with a wonderful reminder of the power in knowing God's love and sensing His protection. The Rain truly IS refreshing!!!
