Magnificent! Feb 15, 2008
Fantastic book! I can't wait till my son's old enough to read it! In the mean time, I'll enjoy it myself. It's a real treasure of language, image, colour and little boys fantasy.

I am a teacher and enjoy reading to my own 2 and 4 year old children very much. I loved this book as much as my little ones did. It isn't the story itself that is so wonderful. It is the combination of the story and the amazing illustrations. For me it is the illistrations that make the book so beautiful. I feel the criticism about the book not being more God centered, considering the author, is unwarented. We were, after all, created in God's image. What better reflextion of God can there be, next to love, then the beauty of creativity. This book is very sweet and I think the details in the illustrations make it even more wonderful.
Written by a Christian, but not a Christian book Dec 11, 2007
I ordered this book without hesitation because of the author: lead singer of Jars of Clay, an award-winning Christian band. It's a wonderful book filled with fantastic illustrations! It has a good story with a valuable lesson. But ...
Because I'm familiar with the author, I expected this to be a Christian book - not overtly religious, but I did expect it to at least mention God somewhere in the book. It doesn't. It could have been so easy, too! The author could have explained that the child was special because God intentionally made him just the way he is, but it doesn't assert as much.
This book could have been written by anyone. It echos the mountain of other books seeking to increase a child's self-esteem. Instead of this book, I would recommend you purchase I Like Myself!. It's a much better, much more colorful title.
If you're looking for a Christian book with the same message, I recommend You Are Special or any of the books in the Wemmicks series by Max Lucado.
