Mr. Finnegan Based on Dick Van Dyke. Includes audio CD of story read by Dick Van Dyke!
Dick Van Dyke will forever be remembered as the irrepressible Bert in the classic movie Mary Poppins, dancing with penguins and leaping across rooftops. Now, Dick Van Dyke will touch a whole new generation of fans with the Christmas picture book Mr. Finnegan's Giving Chest. Featuring 3D illustrations from the forthcoming DVD (2007), this whimsical book has a Polar-Express look and a magical story that will delight readers of all ages.
Mr. Finnegan (Dick Van Dyke) is no ordinary toymaker. His providential meeting with Maggie, a resentful girl who doesn't believe in the magic of Christmas, is the beginning of a series of miracles that will change her heart forever.
"Do you think Santa's the only one who can give us the gifts we want?" said Mr. Finnegan. "Santa's presents simply remind us of a much greter gift, a gift inside ourselves." He lifted the fragile wooden chest by its recently repaired handle and placed it in a wagon.
"What's that old thing?" Maggie asked sourly.
"This 'old thing' is the Giving Chest. It once carried precious gifts in a new-born king. I need you to deliver it to someone."
Maggie brightened. "Is there a treasure inside?"
Mr. Finnegan raised a bro. "For some people, indeed there is."

Reviews - What do customers think about Mr. Finnegan's Giving Chest?
Not for me Dec 7, 2008
I just didn't like this book. There are plenty of other Christmas stories that have better plots. I also found that some of the themes in the book were strange for a children's book--a couple losing their home, kids wanting to beat up other kids. Maybe those are true to life, but it's a little much. Perhaps it makes a better teen book.
A delightful book about experiencing Christmas through a child's eyes Feb 3, 2007
Featuring a main character, "Mr. Finnegan", based on legendary celebrity Dick Van Dyke, Mr. Finnegan's Giving Chest is a Christmas-themed picturebook about Maggie, a young girl who enjoys bullying others, even during the Christmas season. She unexpectedly meets the mysterious Mr. Finnegan, a toymaker who looks after the Giving Chest. The Giving Chest disburses gifts; its purpose is not to reward oneself, but rather to help others. Mr. Finnegan sends Maggie on an seemingly simple errand with the chest, and in the process, she learns more about holiday cheer and begins to feel the warmth of Christmas spirit. A delightful book about experiencing Christmas through a child's eyes, striking illustrated with smoothly rendered, three-dimensional digital art. Mr. Finegan's Giving Chest has a fair amount of text for a picturebook; an accompanying audio CD offers a read-aloud performance by Dick Van Dyke himself.

Giving Praise to The Giving Chest Jan 10, 2007
This book and CD are excellent for sharing with your entire family. My children ages 10, 7 and 5, loved the story and its characters. The illustrations are vivid and tell a great deal about the story. We cannot wait to share it together again during the next Fall Giving Season.
Magical Jan 9, 2007
For awhile, I was afraid this book wouldn't make it to our house by Christmas, but it came in the nick of time.
The illustrations are perfect, the story is lovely. The bonus CD of Dick Van Dyke reading the story, makes it special.
