Book is good, Audiobook is even better Nov 21, 2007
I first heard of Dale Henry at a corporate event I attended where he gave the keynote speech. He was terrific. The audience loved him. His stories were funny and insightful. He himself came across as a very approachable person. Real and down to earth, but highly energetic. And his Southern Tennessee accent (or wherever it's from) only added to the presentation. After the program there was a long line to buy his book. So I got one as well.
Let me just say the book is great. Not as great as his live performance, but still worth having. His story about shopping for pants and what happened is worth the price of the book alone. I also love his theme about "being the prize". Yes, there is some overlap in his message with other self-help books, but in my view, it's his delivery and stories that make his message stick in your mind. To me that's important because most of the books I've read in this genre don't stay with you after you've turned the last page, yet Dale's does.
Now after reading his book I decided to check out his website and see if he had written any others. Apparently he hasn't (at least not that I could find). But while I was at his website I discovered he also has this book available in audio. And he himself does the reading. Plus there is an extra disc included of him giving a live presentation which is just wonderful! Live on stage is where I think he shines best. I don't know why this site doesn't sell the Audiobook edition, but I wish they did. I think listening to the author read the book and hearing his live presentation is even better than reading the book. But then again, I'm a big audiobook fan.
So until this site decides to carry the audiobook (iTunes doesn't have it either) I would say either buy the book from this site or if you're into audio, go to the authors website and order the audiobook there. It's worth having.
Same Old Stuff Dec 2, 2004
While I have seen Dr. in person and his presentation is good. This book has the same overtone of the self-help diatribe that permeates our society. Dr. Henry has taken his tales of his life and written them out, and then carbon copying a "verse" to fit the moment. Stories amusing, yes... but how many times can you write the same thing over and over again. After I had seen Dr. Henry in person, I came to expect more than the usual mass produced "stuff and fluff" from the man. Immediate effect - caused me to chuckle occasionally, Long term effect - sell it on this site and recoup some cost cause one time will do you.
A great read! Feb 7, 2004
This was an excellent book! This man is a born storyteller! I literally laughed out loud! I look forward to reading more of his work and to seeing him in person!

Dale Henry makes learning fun. Truly an original, he brings the wisdom of Proverbs to life through personal experiences, sometimes quite moving and often hilarious. He is the friendly uncle or older brother whose stories you love to hear, and whose advice you respect. Insightful, never preachy, and a whole lot of fun.
Anyone who shies away from this book due to Dale Henry's openly Christian beliefs is doing themselves a huge disservice. These principles are good, right and true whether you are Christian or not, and are well worth the read.
