Publishers Description A Futile Feud Description Grizzly Flats is a typical and non-typical small town. Joe, Timmy, Jane and Alice the main characters have adventures that are planned but seem always to go awry. They hear about a valley called Deaf Valley and plan a day trip there only to discover that the valley is really deaf. Then they decide to build a clubhouse in a huge heritage oak tree but the feud between Timmy and Butch explodes literally. This story has a little of everything that you might experience is the mountains around this small town. They discover a miner's cabin with a real treasure map and they find Indian ruins. A pair of Grizzly bears chases them. All the while the feud is escalating to a surprise solution. In the same way that Thomas Costain read 1000's of books before he wrote one, the same is true of this author. Authors like C. S. Lewis, J. R. R. Tolkien, Gilbert Morris and Donaldson are among the many influential authors he has read. He was born into a student's family while his father was in college. He graduated from same liberal arts college with a BS in El. Ed. and then went on to receive a Masters in Education. He has worked with children all of his life, starting at 13 teaching a children's church with hilarious results. He has been telling these and stories to children on a regular basis. When asked why he wrote this book he said, "I had to experience most of the stuff in this book the hard way."

Mr. Hardy has done a wonderful job on this book. I believe it's for older elementary kids, though. We started reading it when my kids were in 2nd grade and they couldn't quite "get it". Other than that, I'm hoping to see more of his books soon!
