Reviews - What do customers think about Luna Tides?
Favorite of Our Book Club Sep 21, 2007
The reviewer who rated this book one star and skipped pages perhaps should have read every page or maybe the book struck too close to home? Whatever the case, our book club loved Luna Tides. It was almost impossible to put the book down and while at first it is easy to be upset with Kathryn, in the end we all had become her cheerleaders. The book is real in its emotion and the writing style of the author captured us...all 18 of us. Highly recommended.
Slow read, too cliche... Jul 31, 2007
Thankfully I read the book before presenting it to my book club. I would have never heard the end of it! I read this book with high hopes, but unfortunately was disappointed. The writing style is amateur, the book boring and predictable. You can skip entire pages and still know what's happening (I know, not supposed to do that!). I found this book to be just another "some man did me wrong, but I am woman hear me roar" story that is probably more about therapy for the writer than a good read for the rest of us. The characters lack depth and development and the writing itself is just not enough to add substance or life to the subject. I'm sorry to say that I should have saved my money (even buying it used). I've never been a "publisher snob" but there is something to be said for sticking with the known publishers that know good books. I would highly recommend Anita Shreve's "Body Surfing" for similar subject matter - her storytelling is compelling!
A great story about life's ups and downs Jul 31, 2007
I found myself caring about the main character, Kathryn, from the first chapter. This wonderful book packs a lot into each succinct, easy-to-read chapter. I also loved Ms. Cerny's honest, down-to-earth writing style. Whether you've been through a divorce or not, Luna Tides has lessons and messages for us all!
Help for all women Jul 18, 2007
I found this book to be a page turner. I could not even imagine the depths of pain that the character went through and I found myself crying and laughing out loud in parts as I assumed the role of the main character. This book provides hope and has some very good rules to live by. I wish we all had friends like Emily who was silent but provided great advice on the last day to see Kathryn and of course her best friend Alaine! I bought this for my book club and we're going to discuss it next meeting!
You're not defeated until you give up! Jul 8, 2007
When Kathryn Scott finally declared her independence from a cruel and controlling spouse, she thought her life was about to get better; she couldn't know that her problems were just beginning. As her soon-to-be-ex-spouse delivers one cold-hearted betrayal after another, along with more than a few comments designed to inflict the maximum pain, the reader is never quite sure whether Kathryn will make it or collapse under the intense pressure. In the end, female endurance, determination, and sheer stubbornness prevail, and with the help of friends, family, and an inner strength that she didn't know she had, Kathryn overcomes every obstacle and emerges a new and stronger spirit ready to face whatever comes next.
This is a work of fiction, but its authenticity could only have been born of experience. Every woman who has lived through an agonizing divorce will relate to this book. You'll cheer for Kathryn when she gets a break, cry with her when all seems lost, and simply shake your head at how heartless some men and women can be. But this isn't a book that will leave you depressed. This book is also a story of how wonderful some men and women can be -- a story of courage, persistence and ultimate victory that will stay with you long after the last page has been turned.
