Overview
Meet women who lived centuries ago-experience their struggles and triumphs as those events might have happened-what they thought and felt as they coped with difficult situations. Get to know... . Kateryn, queen of England-who finds herself about to be arrested by her own husband, Henry VIII, for speaking to him too freely about her faith in Christ . Katie Luther-who is worried about the health of her unborn child as she struggles to be obedient to both her husband's request and to her Lord's directive to care for the poor in her midst . Catherine, Duchess of Suffolk-who fears for her life and those of her husband and small daughter when a Catholic queen ascends the English throne The lives of these women as told in Struggles and Triumphs are powerfully relevant for today. Walk with them as they face hardships, doubt their faith, and suffer at the hands of ungodly people. Rejoice with those who find their way through their difficulties with God's help and guidance. Experience a deepening desire for greater spiritual service as you learn about the lives of these remarkable women. You will be encouraged as you are reminded that God perfectly works through His people-including you!

Reviews - What do customers think about Struggles and Triumphs?

Walking Through Snow  Aug 30, 2008
From the moment I viewed the beautiful cover of Stuggles and Triumphs, I was captivated and made eager to discover the writer's message. And who doesn't want to know about real women of a different time and place?
The pages inside are even more intriguing than the cover--Cynthia L. Simmons knows her history! Fascinating stories unfold as you read. Details of dress, speech and furnishings will plant you there, a silent observer of each scene. Simmons evokes the mindset and the tenor of time periods past. When Katie, wife of Martin Luther, pauses in her work and rises to stand among the cabbages, the author's skill causes you to smell the dirt and feel the warmth of the sun shining in Katie's auburn hair. The drama in each story is heightened by nuances of emotion reavealed in dialogue, gesture and facial expression.
What an illumination it is to see portrayals of women who struggled under the weight of former cultures that appear religious but, in which, true Christianity had not yet fully permeated those societies, societies that at times stole the dignity of the female sex, in general failed to lift women to full protection under the law and often ignored the worth and capability of their minds. Reading this book, you will see how women of faith prevailed despite hampered lives and rough circumstances. You will appreciate more deeply the respect, preservation and opportunity Christ set in motion at the Cross for us who enjoy these enormous blessings during an era when the Christian principles of our nation have come to fruition within a sin-filled world.
Thank you, Cynthia Simmons, for reminding us through historical fiction of the ways in which a woman's life is so greatly influenced by her knowledge of Christ and by the level of her trust in God's truths.

Dropped into History  Aug 14, 2008
Cynthia carries you back in time to meet nine fascinating women. She drops you right into life-changing events that occured in their lives like Kateryn, queen of England, who got arrested by her own husband, Henry VIII, for speaking to him about her faith in Christ and Katie Luther who ran a boarding house on her own (when women did not take care of businesses)after the death her famous husband, Martin Luther. My personal favorite was learning about the engagement of Charles H. Spurgeon to Susannah. If you are looking for a good read, pick up Struggles and Triumphs. You will be encouraged to trust God for help and guidance through your own challenges, like wise women have been doing for centuries.
