Reviews - What do customers think about The Holy Bible: English Standard Version, Reference Edition?
The Holy Bible: English Standard Version, Reference Edition (Purchased on 04/02/2008) May 6, 2008
With the RSV out of print, this is a welcome improvement to one of the best translations written. The ESV is better, more literal. A great edition.
Beautiful Heirloom-Quality ESV Bible Aug 10, 2007
Although more expensive than other available ESV Bibles, the Heirloom Reference Edition offers two remarkable advantages over the Classic Reference Edition: its sturdy construction and its larger print. I've been reading from the Heirloom Edition as part of my daily devotions for almost three years, and have found that it holds up well to regular use (and even occasional abuse!). The binding is tight and the paper is substantial, without any "bleed-through" of the print from one page to another. Bibliophiles will delight in simply handling this calfskin-bound volume, and those of us who are advancing toward what a ministerial colleague of mine likes to call "the high middle ages" will appreciate its 10.5 font size -- a significant improvement over the 9-point font used in all the Classic Reference Editions. Prospective buyers should be aware, however, that this is definitely not a compact, travel-sized Bible. Its larger print and wider margins necessitate a book that's not as portable as other editions of the ESV. Nonetheless, if you appreciate the many virtues of this fine translation, and are looking for a truly beautiful edition that will stand up well to daily use, I would recommend this one without reservation.
Great Translation May 17, 2007
The ESV is a wonderful translation. This particular format uses a bit larger type for the main text, making it easier to read for those of us with older eyes. The margin notes are reasonable, though not as extensive as some study bibles, and there are plenty of footnotes giving translation nuances. The ESV does not appear to be a politically correct translation, as so many others are these days, but the honest "gender neutral" translation options are faithfully listed in the footnotes for those who worry about such things. This Bible has become the one I nearly always pick up for general reading.

An excellent version of the Bible!!! The paper is supurb. No references in the middle of the page, easy to turn the pages.
Everything that I was Looking For. Mar 19, 2007
This translation of the Holy Bible is wonderful. I love its "essentially word-for-word" translation. It uses classic English style as a model making it wonderful to read, wonderful to hear, and wonderful to study. And since it has not been mutilated by inclusive language it is a translation to be trusted far above its ancestor the NRSV. I highly recommend it for anyone that takes Scripture seriously.
