Story Behind the Book
Craig Groeschel started LifeChurch.tv, now attended by more than twelve thousand people each weekend on five different campuses, in the Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, area in 1996. From that point on, he has been empowered by the knowledge that he is following God’s chazown (vision) for his life. Craig’s cutting-edge teaching style—including honest, uncomfortable teaching of God’s truth and ubiquitous use of in-your-face video and other imagery—has challenged and changed thousands of lives. His messages are simulcast live to each of the church’s campuses, and his ministry continues to explode. This book stems from a two-message series that he gave; its premise is the bedrock for all teaching and ministry at LifeChurch.tv. Praise for Chazown
“It is depressing to consider how many people will go to bed tonight never having thought of how God wanted them to spend the day. As Craig points out, this is a deadly cycle that quickly culminates in a wasted life. Chazown reminds us of the brilliance of our God who carefully created us and empowered us for a life of purpose. I pray it rescues many from an eternity of regret and leads them toward the satisfying and meaningful life God intended.” —Francis Chan, best-selling author of Crazy Love
“Craig Groeschel dreams God-sized dreams. But he’s also one of the most down-to-earth people I know. You can’t get close to him without getting a vision infection. And his church, Life Church, is like a church on steroids. Creativity oozes out of every pore, leaving a trail for churches to follow if they want to impact culture. If you need a dose of vision, pop the Chazown pill.” —Mark Batterson, lead pastor of National Community Church, Washington DC, and best-selling author of In a Pit with a Lion on a Snowy Day, Wild Goose Chase, and Primal
“Craig Groeschel is a leading voice among the new generation of communicators. He knows how to articulate people’s deeply felt needs, and—even better—to help them identify and pursue their God-given dream with passion and purpose.” —John Maxwell, author, speaker, and founder of INJOY Stewardship Services and EQUIP
Craig Groeschel is the founding and senior pastor of LifeChurch.tv, one of the country’s first multi-campus churches, with twenty-three weekly worship experiences at five locations. Craig, his wife, Amy, and their six children live in the Edmond, Oklahoma, area where LifeChurch.tv began in 1996. Craig and Amy’s passion, to lead people to become fully devoted followers of Christ, is the driving force behind his down-to-earth teaching that touches thousands of people weekly. Craig earned his BA in marketing from Oklahoma City University and his MDiv from Phillips Theological Seminary. Part 1
Seeing Clear to the End
Why you need a new kind of vision
Your Final Chapter Most people take a long time to die. (This is no way to start a book, you say.) But think about it. There are those few who go suddenly. Accidents. Heart attacks. Gang shootings. A soapy slip off the edge of the tub. But for you, chances are that at the end of your life, you will die in bed. Waiting. And while you wait, you will very likely have days, weeks, even years to think, to look back on your life. Imagine yourself there, lying in bed and reflecting. Reading back through the chapters of your life story. What did my life add up to? Did I really matter? What did I live for? Who will remember me? What will they say about me when I’m gone? Why was it important that I existed? So many questions. So much time. Will you lie there with no regrets? Some regrets? Nothing but regrets? Imagine. Or not. I mean, you’ll probably have time to think about it when you get to that bed. So you could just wait. (Millions do.) See what comes. Wait until the final pages of your life story to see how it reads to you then. But that’s no way to end the story of your life. Here’s one more thing to think about: the decisions you are making today are actually making the bed you will lie in while you wait to die. Which is why I wrote this book. To help you see your life differently, to see it the way your Creator saw it before you were born. And to live it with purpose and passion. Starting now.

More About Craig Groeschel
Craig Groeschel (born December 2, 1967) is the founder and senior pastor of LifeChurch.tv which is considered the largest church in the United States and has fifteen locations in five states. He is married with six children and lives in Edmond, Oklahoma, a suburb of Oklahoma City, where LifeChurch.tv is based.
Groeschel was born in Houston, Texas and grew up in southern Oklahoma, attending Ardmore High School. After high school, he attended Oklahoma City University on an athletic scholarship and was a member of the Lambda Chi Alpha fraternity and received a Bachelor's degree in Marketing. Shortly thereafter, he met his wife Amy and the two married in 1991. That same year, Groeschel entered the ministry as an associate pastor in the United Methodist Church. He attended Phillips Theological Seminary, which is affiliated with the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) and earned a Master of Divinity degree. He was an associate pastor at First United Methodist Church in Oklahoma City during the 1995 Oklahoma City Bombing.
In 1996, Groeschel and a handful of people started Life Covenant Church in a two-car garage. He later told Business Week that he started the process by performing market research of non-churchgoers and designed his church in response to what he learned. Groeschel’s non-traditional style was successful and attendance of Life Covenant grew rapidly, eventually evolving to become (as of April 2013) the second largest church in the United States with fifteen LifeChurch.tv campuses. Groeschel began using video to deliver some of sermons, when his fourth child was born in 2001 and he was unavailable for the Sunday service, discovering that the videos were popular with his churchgoers. In 2006 he set up a website called Mysecret.tv as a place for people to confess anonymously on the Internet. Groeschel also began delivering his services to the Second Life virtual world on Easter Sunday 2007.
LifeChurch.tv was named America’s Most Innovative Church by Outreach Magazine in 2007 and 2008. LifeChurch.tv innovations include its free resource library with sermons, transcripts, videos, artwork, and a digerati team that develops free software like ChurchOnlinePlatform.com and YouVersion the Bible app, which has been downloaded over 100 million times.
He is the author of several books including Soul Detox, Weird, The Christian Atheist and It. Craig, his wife, Amy, and their six children live in Edmond, Oklahoma.

Are you on target for God's purpose? Oct 6, 2007
This book presents a great way to evaluate if you are seeking out God's purpose in your life and if you understand what his purpose is for your life. I'm not yet through with the book but so far it's great. I noticed it even comes with a cool DVD in the back.
I guess if you have no direction Aug 22, 2007
in your life then this book is a God send. I found it interesting and was able to glean a few nuggets. I have no real negatives but wish it was a bit deeper and more profound. The Author does a good job at motivating through his stories and life experiences. What it lacks in BIG BANG it makes up for in sincerity.
Excellent outline for growth without relying on the outline itself Jan 22, 2007
It is very difficult for an "outline" or "set of disciplines" book to not become a formula for growth work, which almost always results in the reader relying on the formula for growth instead of God and their love of and desire for God.
Groeschel avoids this mistake and has written a wonderfully clear and concise approach to achieving what you really want out of your life with the amazing thought that, wait for it, it might actually entail you taking this stuff seriously and making it a priority. What's amusing is that despite the fact that deep down we all know this, we either forget or disregard it. But Groeschel won't let you any longer.
The writing style is very conversational and light, which is why some individuals can correctly criticize the book for being a bit "surface-level" however this is not a book aimed at getting you to really contemplate and assess your beliefs but is more focused on equipping you to achieve an active growth through doing and planning.
In fact, planning for growth is the key message of this book, as the book's key verse echoes, if not screams, "Where there is no vision, the people perish (are unrestrained in other translations)," - Proverbs 29:18. I actually prefer the unrestrained translation because it hits closer to Groeschel's message, "Growth rarely, if never, happens by accident."
