More About L. B. E. Cowman & Jim Reimann
L. B. Cowman worked as a pioneer missionary with her husband in Japan and China from 1901 to 1917, during which time they helped found the Oriental Missionary Society. When Mr. Cowman's poor health forced the couple to return to the United States, Mrs. Cowman turned her attention to caring for her husband until his death six years later. Out of Mrs. Cowman's experiences and heartbreak came her first book, Streams in the Desert, followed by its companion Springs in the Valley. During the next twenty-five years, Mrs. Cowman inspired several nationwide Scripture distribution campaigns and wrote seven more books. Finally, on Easter Sunday in 1960, at the age of ninety, Mrs. Cowman met face-to-face the God she had served so faithfully for nearly a century.

One of my favorite devotionals May 16, 2010
Streams in the Desert is a classic devotional that never grows old. It moves the heart and inspires the reader to a closer walk with God. I highly recommend it. It is especially good for someone with a love of the poetic as it includes moving poetry by one of my favorite poets, Annie Johnson Flint, among many others.

This is a marvelous devotional that is especially helpful during trials and tribulations we may face. I like to give it to those who are going thru difficult times. It is very very reasonably priced.
Not as satisfied as I'd liked Apr 28, 2010
I have a paperback version of Streams in the Desert but it is a much better quality than the ones I received. I didn't see anything like it when ordering so hoped the ones I ordered would be sufficiient. The quality of paper is different and the print is smaller in the ones recently purchased. I don't think they are going to hold up well. I think i made a mistake in not buying used hardcovers for the same price.
Thought-provoking encouragement Mar 7, 2010
This book is a must for anyone going through a trial. I usually don't spend much time in devotional books because they usually don't satisfy my desire for something deep and insightful. This book, however, is rich with spiritual truths and thought-provoking encouragement. It has really stretched my faith and trust in the LORD as I walk the journey of cancer. It is a great gift for others who are going through difficult circumstances, as well.

Excellent devotional for Christian believers. The large print edition makes for easy reading. Each devotion begins with a passage from scripture, followed by commentaries by one or more writers. Many times these comments take the form of poetry. Readers will be impressed by the spirituality and perspicatiousness of Mrs. Cowman. This first edtion cannot be surpassed even by later editions. The Spanish language version of the 1st ed., is even better. The Spanish language has a spiritual power all its own--It is, as if God were actually speaking to you.
