Item description for Foundations of Christian Thought: Faith, Learning, and the Christian Worldview by Mark P. Cosgrove...
Overview Written by a veteran Christian educator, this readable book describes the relationship between Christian faith and the world of learning by looking at modern worldviews. Foundations of Christian Thought introduces readers to the concept of worldviews, and tests the five major worldviews competing with Christian theism. Students and readers in the workforce and elsewhere will learn how to relate their faith to modern worldviews in our culture and see how the Christian worldview is relevant to everything they read, study, and consider.
"Faith is not just meant for church on Sunday," contends Mark Cosgrove. "Faith and learning are interwoven with each other for the full functioning of the human mind." A book that details this interconnection between faith and learning, Foundations of Christian Thought encourages readers to view the Christian faith and worldview as relevant to everything they read, study, and consider.
In part 1, Cosgrove explores the relationship between faith and learning and how an underlying worldview can influence one's beliefs. Part 2 describes and tests five major worldviews competing with Christian theism, including naturalism, secular humanism, atheistic existentialism, pantheism, and the New Age movement. The last part probes the Christian worldview in more detail by analyzing the challenges it faces and how it is lived out day-to-day.
An educator on the college campus for thirty years, Cosgrove testifies to how well the Christian worldview relates with the current needs and ideas in American culture. Through Foundations of Christian Thought, high school and college students will begin to see how the Christian worldview is relevant to what they are studying in the classroom and the decisions they make. Readers in the workforce and elsewhere will learn to relate their faith to modern worldviews in our culture.

Waste of money!!!! May 23, 2010
I had to read this book for class. I thought the book was horrible and the author is narrow minded. I can't believe I had to waste my time on this book.
tough concepts presented in easy to read format Feb 15, 2010
I bought this book for a college philosophy class and unlike other college texts, this one will become part of my permanent library. Cosgrove compares and contrasts several worldviews, highlighting their strengths and weaknesses. It is a great read for believers and skeptics alike. At the very least, after reading the book, both will have a better (and respectful) understanding of opposing worldviews.
Honest, concise, and easy to understand.

Foundations of Christian Thought is a spicy book the brings you to a global understanding of people with different beliefs and backgrounds. It challenges the mind!
Eh May 26, 2009
If you are looking to buy this book you probably go to Taylor University. If you do, don't waste your money (unless you REALLY want to read the book). I bought this freshman year and have yet to open it.
well-presented May 9, 2009
This book gives a fair and logical assessment of all the currently prevalent Western worldviews. The ideas are weighty, but the author communicates in direct, easy-to-understand language. A gem!
