Item description for Providence: Once Upon a Second Chance by Coppernoll Chris...
Overview Jack Clayton excels at campus ministry, but he's haunted by his past. When he was a student at the university, a drunk driver shattered his family. Now, 20 years later, he's working in the same college town, and he can't forget the "one that got away." Should he resign, or can he find another path to peace?
More than twenty years ago a drunk driver shattered Jack Clayton's family. Angry, confused and as naive as any college freshman, he trades his small Midwestern town for another, only to find that it too is too small to contain his dreams. Or is it? Now an instrumental part of the Campus Missions Office and a New York Times Bestselling author, he makes his home in that very college town, where the past and "the one that got away" relentlessly haunt him and the future becomes increasingly uncertain thanks to a big city reporter with a malicious agenda.
Will he have to walk away from the ministry that he spent decades building? Or can he find a way to confront the rumors and set the record straight? In a race against the clock, Jack throws caution to the wind and finds that even he may deserve a second chance.

Reviews - What do customers think about Providence: Once Upon a Second Chance?
A Contemporary Romance for Guys Jul 17, 2009
I've run across very few Christian romance novels that would appeal to a guy -- but "Providence" by Chris Coppernoll is at the top of the list.
Jack Clayton, author of a New York Times mega-best seller on helping the poor and a Time Magazine "Man of the Year," has been asked by his publisher to write his own personal story. Jack doesn't want to do that, for a lot of painful reasons. And the most painful of all is the love he walked away from 20 years before.
But the people on the staff of the ministry where he works convince him to write the book. And the writing gets complicated with a nasty, largely untrue newspaper story about Jack that goes viral. He ends up solving both problems by getting the erring reporter to work with him on the book. The book will untangle his past, but lead Jack in unexpected directions.
Most contemporary Christian fiction, and especially romantic fiction, is written and read by women. "Providence" is different. It captures almost exactly a guy's experience in college and after and the ways a guy thinks about relationships.
It also captures the hunger for love that's in every guy's heart. It's a great story.
Awesome! Jun 24, 2009
I liked Chris' book "A Wonderful Fall", but I LOVED this story....I found myself drawn immediately into the story and seeing God's redemptive grace in Jack's life, and the amazing road that took him to that point....you'll find yourself cheering for him and won't be able to put it down until the surprising and happy ending!
Couldn't Put it Down Apr 26, 2009
How do you explain that an author's first novel is a home run? I am a "wannabe" author and I read for storyline and creativity, and if it touches my heart, even better. Just finished "Providence: Once Upon a Second Chance" by Chris Coppernoll, and this book does it all. It's a story of the past, present and hope for the future of a 40 year old man whose Christian ministry might be rocked by his past. Coppernoll weaves the story of Jack Clayton's life - the present intermingled with the past in this literary home run. This is a love story - between family members, friends, men and women, and of the unfailing love of a God who knows our failures.
One of the extra special `features' is that each chapter begins with lyrics to a song from the 1980's. Realizing I knew these songs was one thing, but I think it draws the reader into the story and there is an added connection. Providence is a first person narrative and each character is brought to life with great dialogue and reflection. The reader knows the characters, roots for them and weeps with them. Jack's childhood has been shattered by divorce and the death of his sister before he is 16 years old. He leaves for college with his best friend Mitchell wanting to leave the past behind and to take on the world. Twenty years later Jack is recognized for his role in a ministry to the poor, not as the single man whose past threatens to destroy his work.
I highly recommend "Providence" - God might use this book to remind you of His unfailing love for you and that He is the God of second chances.
A Great Book with a Great Message! Dec 29, 2008
What a wonderful gift to for readers - a book that not only draws you in, but also has a powerful message! Once I picked it up, I struggled to put it down. This is a story that full of relatable, real characters (how fun that I happen to share my name with one of them?) - ones with which most of us can relate in one way or another; it is one of stuggle, of humility, of overcoming, of relationships, and of faith. Chris (and Jack) show us that God is good (and faithful) - all the time - even when we're not able to see Him.
Romantic & Providential! Dec 28, 2008
A compelling story from page one - you won't be able to put it down! I loved the way Chris tells this story moving back and forth between the past and the present in such a seamless way, to sew up all of the loose threads in the end! Having just experienced a major second chance blessing of God in my life, I could totally relate with this story. I'm excited to read more of Chris' stories!
