Item description for The Faith: What Christians Believe, Why They Believe It, and Why It Matters by Charles Colson & Harold Fickett...
Overview Addresses modern-world questions about the Christian religion and its tenets, drawing on historical events and present-day anecdotes to illustrate its joyful aspects while explaining the faith's embrace of the example and message of Jesus.
Publishers Description 'I am seeking truth, not therapy, a real challenge to the church.' Chuck Colson In this powerful book, Chuck Colson and Harold Fickett identify Christianity s two great contemporary threats---anti-theism and radical Islam--and a third challenge: Christians who no longer understand their faith or the biblical truths upon which it is founded. There has never been a time, they say, when we needed more the strong, culture-building, life-affirming influence of biblical Christianity. This book reconnects Christians with the unshakable tenets of their faith---truths that offer a ground for faith in uncertain times, hope and joy for those who despair, and reconciliation for a world at war with God and itself."

The Faith - Have faith, this is an excellent read!! Feb 11, 2010
Fantastic insight and well explained from the author whom has learned to live it!! I learned things I had not thought of before. It made me think of things in a new and encouraging way. Also it confirmed my beliefs and made them even stronger.
OUTSTANDING! Feb 8, 2010
Colson has captured a concise and easily understood (by the ordinary person) essence of who God is, his working in the world and how anyone can be reconciled to him. Not a book about faith, per se, or even overtly evangelistic but a book about THE Faith, ie, Biblical foundations and functions in today's society for those who have or seek peace with God. A clear thinker who often writes well above the heads of most people, this book of Colson's has brought the subject of explanations to many who had found his deeper works too hefty.

What we believe and why it is important Feb 3, 2010
This is Charles Colson's response to what he sees as a lack of knowledge and understanding of traditional, Christian theology in an age of pluralism. His goal was to clearly and plainly outline the basic beliefs of orthodox Christianity in a short, readable book that is both concise and comprehensive. It is a daunting task, as he sets out to do so in less than 250 pages. Volumes have been written on what Christians believe, yet many believers have neither the time nor the inclination to wade through such tomes. Here is where Colson comes in, presenting Christian beliefs alongside Biblical accounts and personal and inspirational stories. Colson has quite a collection of stories to tell, and he is a master at blending them in with Biblical truth in ways that illuminate what the Bible is saying while applying it to our modern world. His audience is clearly those who already think like he does, or who aren't sure what they believe but pretty much believe classic Christian teaching. I don't think this is a book for the seeker, but more for those who already believe. That said, this is an excellent book that should help clarify your beliefs and help you to share them.
a reminder Feb 1, 2010
I have been a fan of Mr. Colson's books for years. This is somewhat different in that it is more basic in content. It is a capsule of what Christianity is all about and therefore is a good review for believers and a good overview for nonbelievers. The last chapter " a great proposal" is somewhat chilling, an eye opener!
