Item description for John Wesley's Theology Today by Dr Colin Williams...

Overview
A study of the Wesleyan tradition in the light of current theological debate. Issues of vital importance and interest to contemporary Christians are covered in this complete picture of Wesleyan theology. Colin Williams examines the main beliefs of John Wesley--authority and experience, salvation, original sin, repentance and justification, atonement, the work of the Holy Spirit, doctrine of the church, Christian perfection, and eschatology--in a search for insights which Methodism should share with other Christians concerning issues that divide the churches. A deeper perspective is added to the study through a comparison of Wesley's views with beliefs of other reformers such as Calvin and Luther and, in many instances, with the Roman Catholic view. In a world caught up in a new revival of the Spirit, John Wesley's own heart-warming experience and history-making religious reforms continue to inspire and guide Christians of all denominations.

Reviews - What do customers think about John Wesley's Theology Today?

And still king  Nov 9, 2009
Colin Williams was one of my theology professors at Garrett Evangelical on the campus of Northwestern University. This is an outstanding book on the theology of John Wesley.

Williams covers the Order of Salvation which is the key and heart of Wesley's theology. He shows how it all goes together as well as covering the individual parts. It is a masterful job of pulling together Wesley's theology because as we all know Wesley was not a systematic theologian, writing book after book on his theology.

Wesley's theology is in sermons, tracts, Notes on the Bible, Journals and Letters and you have to read all of it in order to find out what Wesley is saying. He spent more time and material on those areas in which he had problems or differences of opinion that arose to the point that he felt he had to respond to.

Williams is still king in Wesley's theology. He also presents a case for Wesley being reconsidered as a contributor to the council of churches and the Christian Churches getting their theology closer together.

A wonderful read for any scholar, minister or layperson.

J. Robert Ewbank, author of "John Wesley, Natural Man, and the 'Isms'"
