Overview When a friend dies diving, Bane Oana, naval oceanographer, and his old flame Leia Kahale suspect foul play. Bane's faith and his heart are taken to dangerous depth when a massive hurricane gathers force and threatens to sweep away everything he loves.
Sometimes life's most precious treasure lies at Dangerous Depths.
Leia ditched a promising medical career to settle on a secluded island of Hawaii. She ditched Bane, too, and he's come to the island to find out why. He's also in search of a fortune rumored to lie offshore. But an act of sabotage that pushes Bane closer to Leia plunges them both into a tangle of emotion--just as a series of threatening events grip the island.
Theft, a friend's death, a bizarre intruder, hints of a second treasure...and even murder--how can they sort it all out when everyone on the island has something to hide?
The novels in Colleen Coble's popular Aloha Reef Series combine mystery and suspense with tender romance in an irresistible island setting.

She has over 2 million books in print and writes romantic mysteries because she loves to see justice prevail. Colleen is CEO of American Christian Fiction Writers. She lives with her husband Dave in Indiana.
She was born January 19, 1952, in Wabash, Indiana. She was raised on a farm in Wabash County, Indiana, the eldest of four children. Her father, George Rhoads, was a farmer who also worked as a guard at General Motors. Her mother, Peggy Rhoads, was a housewife. She has three brothers: Randy (who died in 1990), Rick, and David. She graduated from Southwood High School, in Wabash County.
Coble’s early books were short historical romances published by Barbour Publishing under its Heartsong Presents imprint. The first four novels were set in Wyoming. Coble says she was inspired to write them when her brother Randy was killed by lightning on August 28, 1990. After a visit to Wyoming, where he had lived, she was inspired to do what she’d longed to do for several years: actually write a book. Wyoming became the setting for her first four romance novels, set in the wild West of the 1860s: Where Leads the Heart, Plains of Promise, The Heart Answers and To Love a Stranger . It took her a year to write the first one because she continued to work at her full-time job as a receptionist at Wabash Electric Supply, where she answered about 1000 phone calls a day.
Coble says, “Born and raised in the Midwest (Indiana), I grew up on a farm with horses, pigs and chickens. I had plenty of adventure–from being dragged by my pony to running my brother Randy’s motorcycle through a fence. Maybe that’s why all my stories have action and adventure in them.”

Great writer Nov 10, 2006
As always, Colleen Cobles book was a good read. I am not partial to the Hawaiian setting. But the characters and story line are good.
Dangerous Depths a Fast Read Nov 2, 2006
Dangerous Depths is Colleen Coble's third installment in the Aloha Reef series. In it she focuses on the oldest Oana sibling, Bane. He has been a rock in the first two books, and in this one you see why. He doesn't know how to not try to control events around him. But from the moment his plane dives into the ocean, the events in the book rocket out of his control.
Leia Kahale turned her back on traditional medicine to embrace homeopathic, holistic medicine, a decision her mother won't accept. She broke off her engagement with Bane, but finds him back in her life -- a situation she is not comfortable with.
Bane has returned to help a friend find a sunken ship rumored to be filled with treasure. When his partner dies, Bane and Leia work together to find answers. The interactions and conflicts between them rang true. Each had reasons for the ways they responded to the events.
Colleen paints amazing pictures of Hawaii in this book. As I read it, I could almost feel the tradewinds on my face and the stifling heat in the jungle. Her attention to detail transforms the setting into an active part of the plot. While this is the third book in the series, you don't need to have read the previous books to understand and fully enjoy this one.
Well done! Jul 17, 2006
Dangerous Depths is a well written book. The plot and characters are believable in that it is could have really happened. The story line moves along smoothly and keeps you on the edge of your seat in anticipation of what's going to happen next. A must read!
The anticipation was worth the wait May 26, 2006
Nothing makes me happier than to see a favorite author come out with a new book and Colleen Coble certainly falls into this category. This third book in the Aloha Reef series is a twisting, intriguing romantic suspense that will leave you guessing at every turn what's going to happen.
The story of Bane and Leia will alternately make you smile and want to shake them. Set against the beautiful island of Moloka'i, Coble handles the subject of Hansen's disease with grace and sensitivy. Coble has already proven her mastery of characterization and setting but Dangerous Depths is her best effort yet.
I highly encourage long time time fans and first time readers to pick up this book. You won't be disappointed with this latest offering. For myself I can't wait to see what Colleen comes up with next. It's a guaranteed read into the small hours for sure.
