More About American Bible Society
The American Bible Society is an interdenominational, non-profit, donor-supported ministry whose mission is to make accurate and affordable translations of the Bible available to everyone. Founded in New York City in 1816, ABS is dedicated to presenting the Bible in compelling ways so that people can experience life in its fullness through faith in Jesus Christ. ABS is responsible for a number of -firsts-: the first Bibles provided to the U.S. military in 1817, the first pocket Bibles for soldiers during the Civil War, and the first Bibles in hotels. The society extends its outreach internationally through the United Bible Societies (UBS), a fellowship of 126 international groups, and was instrumental in founding this global fellowship in the interest of efficiency and making a greater impact. In 1999 alone, more than 63 million copies of the Society's publications were distributed throughout the United States and the world.

Flawed pew edition NKJV Jul 23, 2005
This is an pew / reader's New King James Version (NKJV) bible. This bible does have a number of positive features for someone who wants a text only bible. It comes with a classic red hard cover, one which enables the bible to stay open on a desk by itself. Except for poetry, this bible is in paragraph format, something which is rare for inexpensive NKJV bibles. The inner margins are wide enough to allow all the text to be read, avoiding a flaw which some other bibles have.
One thing to consider is that this edition has almost no footnotes. It has only a few of the normal NKJV translator's comments. It does NOT have the normal NKJV new testament notes showing where the majority text and critical text differ from the TR which the NKJV was based on. It does not have footnotes, other than where one part of scripture directly quoted another.
The paper thickness and texture is somewhere between onion skin and the paper of a normal book. This edition is black letter, not red letter.
The biggest problem with this bible is one which it unfortunately shares with many other bibles: bleed through. Not only can I see the page I am reading, but the backwards image of the page on the other side, and I can even read the page underneath through any blank parts of the current page. It is heavy enough to be distracting and make reading the bible more difficult.
All in all this bible is usable and the bleed through isn't worse than many "slim line" bible editions. The best way to read it is to pick up each page while reading, which greatly lessens bleed through. There aren't very many NKJV bibles available, so this maybe a good match for someone who wants a text only, paragraph format bible.
