Item description for Letters to a Young Father by Chuck Callahan...
Have you ever taken a sabbatical on fatherhood? You spend years going to school. You labor to learn your job. You read books about your hobbies. But have you ever spent any time thinking about being a dad? Most of us don't. Parenting is something we ignore until we run into a crisis. By then it may be too late. This book is a series of letters on fatherhood, inspired by a young father and his new baby. Prayerfully commit to daily reading and meditation for a month, or discuss the book with a small group of dedicated fathers weekly. Use the time as a mini-sabbatical on being a dad. Then prepare yourself for God to move. God is much more anxious for us to know His will and wisdom than we are to hear it. When we dedicate the time and attention to listen, the sound of His voice can be deafening. Dr. Chuck Callahan is a father and lay-pastor of a small church in Hawaii. He is a pediatrician with training in the care of children with lung disease, and works as a hospital Department Chief and Professor of Pediatrics. The author of numerous publications in medicine and the Christian Faith, he teaches and preaches on a range of subjects including the care of children, marriage and parenting. He lives with his wife, Linda and eight children in a too-small house in Honolulu.

I am Chuck Callahan's daughter so I can tell you this guy's not making anything up. He is an excellent dad and I learn so much from him. BUY THE BOOK AND YOU CAN LEARN TOO!
Outstanding! A must have for parents! Jan 5, 2004
Dr. Callahan writes simply yet throughly, offering examples to advice he offers, much of it from his own experiences of raising many children. This book can be read as daily devotions or in one sitting. As new parents, we are excited, yet a bit scared that we will make mistakes while raising our children. Dr. Callahan's wisdom to follow God's will is so important and we really enjoyed learning how he and his wife have relied on the Lord to raise their blessings. My husband and I use this book as a reference, taking from it prayers and practical advice to apply to our own life. We hope and pray that Dr. Callahan will find time to write another book!
