Item description for Hazardous Duty (Squeaky Clean Mysteries, No. 1) by Christy Barritt...
Overview She always wanted to be a forensic pathologist. But when circumstances force her to drop out of school, Gabby St. Claire starts a crime scene-cleaning business. Suddenly a routine job turns up a murder weapon, and Gabby and her neighbor Riley realize that the wrong man is behind bars! Will they catch the real killer? 240 pages, softcover from Kregel.
Community Description Gabby St. Clair wants to be a CSI specialist. She's always loved science and mystery. Family trouble demanded her time and she didn't finish college. Now, she's given up her dream so she can clean up after murders, assaults and the occasional cat lady.
But with her inclination toward crime solving, Gabby can't help but notice some things don't add up at the site of a murder. And when she takes her suspicion to the police, she's met with incompetence or maybe it's a cover-up. And then a bomb shows up on her doorstep. She's definitely making someone nervous.
Hazardous Duty switches pace from comedy to spine tingling suspense with quick deft skill. Barritt has a great cast of odd-ball characters backing up her heroine: a way-too-cute new neighbor who stacks up to be a bum like Gabby's dad; a vegan who is willing to give a pro-animal speech at the least provocation; and a cop who looks like Brad Pitt and who might be trying to kill Gabby.
Hazardous Duty by Christy Barritt as much fun as I've had reading a book in a while. I feel like Christian fiction, which I love and write, has just turned a corner with this book. It's as funny and fast paced as any book, created with Christian readers in mind with no offensive language or situations---unless picking skull fragments out of a wall offends you---which is possible. It's pure entertainment with a Christian worldview. -- Debbie W. Wilson, Christian Book Previews.com

Reviews - What do customers think about Hazardous Duty (Squeaky Clean Mysteries, No. 1)?
Christy Barritt is my new favorite author! Nov 21, 2008
As an author and writing instructor, I tend to be a very critical reader, but not with this book! Christy Barritt is an extremely talented writer, capturing my attention with her opening line and retaining it until the conclusion of her noteworthy novel, Hazardous Duty. I adored the characters, enjoyed the fast-paced, intricately-woven murder mystery, and appreciated the perfect amount of well-written dialogue. Her protagonist is strong, yet lovable, with a unique career, and the author's voice is distinctive and wonderful. I cannot wait to read more of her works. This book belongs at the top of any fiction reader's list.
Pure Fun Sep 27, 2008
Now that Christy's second book, Suspicious Minds, is out; Hazardous Duty is a must read. Follow it closely by the second book in the series. You will be anxiouly awaiting the third. Gabby St. Claire seems always to be in the wrong place at the wrong time or vice-versa depending upon your point of view. She's a modern day cross between Lucille Ball and Mary Tyler Moore. A totally entertaining book. Sandra McGarrity
Good read! Jun 11, 2008
I was looking for a clean mystery and happened upon this book. I also wanted an "easy read" and this was one of those. I usually have to keep a list of characters as my bookmark to be able to remember who's who. That wasn't necessary with this book.
I should say that I figured out right off the bat who the murderer was, so I was almost disappointed at the end to find out that I was right. I would rather have been surprised. (This is why I've given it a 4 instead of a 5.)
I enjoyed Gabby's character and look forward to more books in this series. I want to know what happens next as we were left hanging a bit. :-)
What a hoot! Aug 11, 2007
I loved this book! Christy's debut mystery is witty, kooky, and gripping all at the same time. Lots of great characters and unexpected twists. It hooked me from the first line and kept me turning the pages til the end. I hope there is a sequel in the oven; HAZARDOUS DUTY is a recipe for spine-tingling fun.
