Praise be to God! Mar 28, 2007
Welcome to the true sexual revolution!! Prepare for the fog to be lifted! I hope you can handle the truth. Wonderful book! This book explains the teachings thoroughly, clearly and with a sense of humor. It also has prayers throughout the book to help you on your journey to the truth. I think Christopher West is awesome and does a great job explaining things from a perspective that we can all appreciate; a real person who has overcome mistakes to see the holy plan for all men and women. He inspires us to keep seeking renewal in Christ. I am so excited to be a catholic on the brink of this "new springtime." I urge everyone to read this book.
Very Informative Mar 5, 2007
Good News about Sex & Marriage is a must read regardless of your faith. This book provides a great building block for those seeking a better understanding of the Catholic Church's views of sex and marriage as well as Pope John Paul II's "Theology of the Body."
This book does a great job of dividing the material into several separate topics, so for those looking for a good reference book will also be very pleased. Each chapter is further broken down by some of the more common questions posed by individuals seeking understanding or comprehension of the Church's teachings.
This book strikes me as one that will be relevant to you no mater where you are in your life. I would definitely advise adding it to your library, so that as you as a person grow and change you may revisit this book to help to answer newly developed questions.
Changed my beliefs and LIBERATED me!!! Jan 30, 2007
I grew up Baptist and always felt "confined" fo follow in the paths of thinking sex until marriage was just plain dirty. Now I realize the beauty of TRUE, unitive/procreative sex within a marriage. I feel like I can now freely express myself intimately with my spouse(who is Catholic but has not yet read the book). West does such a great job of articulating the "good news" about sex. Most of what you hear in society is such a lie, this book will make you think about your own sexuality and your marriage, like you never have before. I am proud to say that I will be going to RCIA this year to become confirmed. I hope other non-Catholics will read this and gain a deeper understanding of the purpose of using our bodies (but not using one another) for the glory of God.
The Good News about the truth. Jan 9, 2007
The acceptance of the Good News About Sex and Marriage may depend on where you are on your walk of faith. Take your time reading the book and make sure you pray before, during, and after each chapter (sometimes after each page) to have your eyes open to the truth as Christopher West explains it.
Catholic Rules for Sex... Sep 1, 2006
This book is really just a defense of Catholic rules on sex. Keep in mind, these are not God's rules, but Christopher West's defense of Catholic teaching. The scriptural references in the book are almost always taken out of context, so have very little to do with the point he is trying to make.
Frankly, the Bible does not specifically mention masturbation, oral sex or contraception, topics which the Catholic Church seems to be obsessed with. If you want a better idea of God's view on sex, I would suggest reading the "Song of Songs" book in the Bible. If you are looking for a book on the Christian view of sex, I would recommend "A Celebration of Sex: A Guide to Enjoying God's Gift of Sexual Intimacy" by Douglas E. Rosenau.
