Reviews - What do customers think about My Jesus: Encountering Christ in the Gospel!?
Meeting Christ (for non-theologians) May 7, 2009
"My Jesus: Encountering Christ in the Gospel" is one of three books which comprise commentary on the weekly Sunday gospel readings for Years A, B and C of the liturgical Church year. I belong to a small study group of half a dozen lay people who meet weekly to study the scripture readings for the coming Sunday. We take turns facilitating. When my turn comes, I often look to these books.
The Cardinal's books are a gift. His comments on each week's Gospel are two to three pages each, a perfect length for our group's study and discussion. Best of all, they read as though the Cardinal was personally addressing us. It is very clear that the Cardinal has spent many years not just studying the scriptures academically, but walking with Jesus intimately on a day-to-day basis. I respect the Cardinal as a scripture scholar, but what the other members of the Bible study group and I receive from the Cardinal through these books is "This is my friend Jesus, and I want you to know him." Highly recommended!
