More About Christauria Welland & David Wexler
Christauria Welland, PsyD, is a clinical psychologist of Canadian origin. She began working in Mexico City in 1976 in some of the poorest areas of the city as a social worker and educator with an international organization. Since moving to San Diego in 1989 and obtaining a BA in Spanish, Dr. Welland has volunteered with Mexican migrant workers and their families. Her doctoral dissertation explored culturally appropriate approaches for Latino men in treatment for intimate partner violence, an interest that grew out of her experience working with Latino men in domestic violence groups beginning in 1995. During this period she also co-facilitated groups for partner abusive men at the U.S. Navy with David Wexler, PhD.
In 2003, she published "Violencia Domestica 2000" with Dr. Wexler, piloting this culturally adapted program for four years with Latino men's groups, and fine-tuning the material with their feedback. This program was published in Mexico in 2007, with the title "Sin Golpes: Como transformar la respuesta violenta del hombre en la pareja y la familia", along with a client workbook by the same name, for distribution in the Americas.
Dr. Welland teaches the graduate course on domestic violence at Alliant International University, San Diego, and frequently speaks at conferences and trainings at state institutions and universities in the U.S. and Latin America, especially in Mexico and Peru. She has conducted quantitative research on risk factors for Intimate Partner Violence in the U.S. Latino population, and is currently piloting an IPV prevention-parenting course for Latino couples in the San Diego elementary schools, teaching effective marriage and parenting skills. Dr. Welland maintains a private practice in Solana Beach, California, and a hospital practice as a rehabilitation psychologist in National City, CA.

Excelente Programa de Violencia Domestica Jul 25, 2007
Definitely the best and most culturally relevant domestic violence manual available. The model is effective, the translation is solid, and the additional material that specifically addresses the cultural differences that we encounter in the Hispanic community makes this book a must-have for any agencies dealing with Spanish-speaking domestic violence clients. I have been using this book at my domestic violence offender treatment program in the Southwest since it was published and I continue to be very happy with it.
