Item description for Beggars Can Be Chosen by Chris Maxwell...
Overview Beggars Can Be Chosen probes the encounters of Christ and those He invited to follow Him. The book, while providing expository comment, is fundamentally designed as a source of practical application for our daily Christian walk. There is a dual objective in Beggars Can Be Chosen: How is Jesus inviting us to follow Him? How does Jesus invite others to Himself through us? Traveling chronologically through the life of Christ, the text takes the reader on a stirring journey. The stories vary in pace and emphasis, but the focus stays true to the objective. Beggars Can Be Chosen draws from a wealth of classic and contemporary sources of insight and information. Anecdotes, textual explanations, and stinging discourse provide moving meditations. Examples of ministries following Christ's example are displayed. Readers will know they have turned their attention to the Master Inviter.

Reviews - What do customers think about Beggars Can Be Chosen?
A must read Aug 25, 2003
"Beggars Can Be Chosen" is thought provoking, insightful and inspiring, offering an excellent understanding of Christ's methods and motives for his way of teaching. This book will encourage change in your life. "Beggars Can Be Chosen" is like a surgeon cutting to the core to remove a disease, it is a good aid in helping each of us to expose our thoughts, and hearts desire for ourselves, to live for Jesus Christ in the way he wants us to.
Chris Maxwell's writing style is refreshingly different, couple that with his obvious desire to present the truth and lead many to God's great salvation is most encouraging.
I recommend "Beggars Can Be Chosen" for all to read and study who want to grow in Christ instead of growing in this world.
Evangelism Aug 23, 2003
"Beggars" is a great book about the style of evangelism that Jesus used in His ministry. Chris Maxwell has a way of relating to us that touches our lives, our memories, and our spirit.
Good devotional theology Jul 1, 2003
One of the best ways to understand this book is to understand where it came from. Back in the mid 1980s Chris Maxwell was youth pastor of New Covenant Assembly of God in Winter Springs, Florida. At that time the church met at a Seventh Day Adventist Church, but owned beautiful wooded property with a small home that was used for church offices and youth group meetings. The church building hadn't yet been built on the property. Chris and I used to meet there for prayer before youth group, and Chris spent much time there praying alone as well.
One day, right before our afternoon prayer meeting, he told me that while praying God gave him seemingly hundreds of titles for sermons and sermon series. _Beggars Can Be Chosen_ was among these, and Chris preached this sermon series as one of the first in his own church, Sand Lake Assembly of God, when he started it with New Covenant's blessing in the late 1980s. After so long a gestation period, it's gratifying to see these sermons finally released in book form.
Like many of Chris' sermons, these essays reflect Chris' Biblical, down to earth, and personally felt experience of God in the world. It's not another manipulative how-to manual for evangelism, but a devotional theology of evangelism gleaned from Chris' walk as a Christian and Christ's own approach to those who needed him.
It's a book we need to read, not only for ourselves but for the sake of those around us.
A powerful journey Jun 23, 2003
The author's style is fresh, thought-provoking and insightful. His book challenges the reader to discard stale methods of evangelism and embrace Christ's example of closeness and compassion. Probing, witty and inspiring, this book definitely won't disappoint.
Beggars Can Be Chosen Jun 9, 2003
The author does a wonderful job of simplifying evangelism by showing us how Jesus did it. It is easy to read and understand and well-supported by biblical references. The book is an inspiration to all thinking Chrsitians who look for direction to get on with Christ's work.
