More About Chris L. Demarest
Chris L. Demarest says: "A few years ago my wife and I brought our two-year-old son to an open house at a fire station. Ethan loved the big red fire trucks and I became totally enthralled not only by the trucks, but by the idea of serving my community as a firefighter. "Being a full-time illustrator, I work at home, so I could be on call at any time. I took a lot of classes, passed some hard tests, and became a volunteer firefighter. I am on call for the Meriden, New Hampshire, station, where I now get to drive those big red fire trucks. "I created Firefighters A to Z to show Ethan and other children what firefighting is really like. It can be an exciting job, but it's also a dangerous one. I hope to convey that through this book."
Chris L. Demarest currently resides in Meriden, in the state of New Hampshire.

Italian/English books for children are so hard to find! Dec 26, 2008
I like that there are two languages written in the book. I have all the books in this series but that is certainly not saying much. You just can't find good Italian Language study materials for children. I presented this to my son's grandfather (born/raised in Italy) who found these books to be very good. My only wish is that Berlitz would expand their library of Italian story books for kids the same way they seemed to do with Spanish. I wish they would understand that not everyone wants/needs to learn Spanish. I want my kids to learn the language of their heritage: Italian!
Don't pretend to speak Italian! Nov 8, 2008
This brings up a pet peeve. I am tired of Americans misspelling Italian words!
"Grandmother", in the Italian language, is written - nonna, not nona. Chris Demarest has been reading too many Tomie DePaola books.
In defense, though, of DePaola, I learned, during a conversation with his literary agent at a library conference, that the title, "Strega Nona" was spelled with only one "n" because he was enjoined from using the proper spelling due to a copyright conflict.
