Publishers Description Nearly 3 million Americans suffer from rheumatoid arthritis, a painful, incurable connective-tissue disease that attacks the hands and feet as well as the joints and may lead to deformities and permanent disabilities. Rheumatoid Arthritis: Plan to Win offers an inspiring, scientifically based game plan for minimizing the effects of this chronic illness, and ultimately, achieving optimal health. Here is the definitive resource for practical strategies and emotional support, whether you need help controlling pain, are concerned about medication side-effects, or want to locate a reliable RA news source or support group on the Internet. Helpful chapters detail the latest therapies, special dietary and exercise needs of people with RA, how to deal with arthritis at home and in the workplace, prepare for surgery, pregnancy and childbirth, enjoy healthy sexuality, use the mind-body connection to control symptoms, make informed decisions about alternative medicine, and perhaps most important, how to build a healthcare team and maintain excellent communication and working relationships with that team. By using this book as a starting point and a 24/7 reference guide, people with RA will be better equipped to form an effective plan of action, making well-informed decisions about their health along the way, and greatly enhancing their ability to live happy, productive lives. Cheryl Koehn, who was an Olympic-caliber athlete when she developed RA, is a leading advocate and spokesperson for people with arthritis. Together with her co-authors, John Esdaile, MD, and science writer Taysha Palmer, Koehn provides a wealth of information and practical advice, assembled from thousands of research papers as well as from her personal experiences with this debilitating disease.

Reviews - What do customers think about Rheumatoid Arthritis: Plan to Win?
Plan to Win is a must read for all people living with RA Mar 11, 2004
Plan to Win is a must read for all people living with RA. From signs and symptoms, to treatment, to quality of life, this book covers it all. I use Plan to Win as a resource for many of my questions on medications, lab tests, exercises, websites, and finding the right health care providers to meet my needs. I have had RA for 15 years and with the help of Plan to Win and the new medication I am taking (a biologic), I feel 100% now. I thank Cheryl Koehn and her team for empowering me to learn more about RA and take better care of my body and my health. Thank you.
The best book for people with rheumatoid arthritis Apr 14, 2002
I am a rheumatologist in private practice. I see many patients with rheumatoid arthritis. I read Ms. Koehn's book and have recommended it to my patients. In fact, I took the dust cover off and posted it on my waiting room bulletin board with my recommendation to 'buy this book!' It is easy to read but with sufficient detail for the more sophisticated health consumer. It is a great reference source for patients with Rheumatoid Arthritis (RA) and for family members and care-givers of those with RA. The chapters on medications are particularly useful and well-organized. I like her general advice which is important to all people with chronic diseases, not only RA. Ms. Koehn tells us to be informed and to take charge of our own health care...
Excellent guide! Jan 22, 2002
I found the read to be very interesting and informative. It's the first book that I've read which describes RA from such a personal and eloquent view. It is filled with vital information and facts. It doesn't concentrate on a medical treatment only - it takes exercise, attitude, and emotional wellness into account.
It's an excellent read and I would recommend it to anyone with RA.
